About this deal

Together their domain is the city of Camorr. Built of Elderglass by a race no-one remembers, it’s a city of shifting revels, filthy canals, baroque palaces and crowded cemeteries. Home to Dons, merchants, soldiers, beggars, cripples, and feral children. And to Capa Barsavi, the criminal mastermind who runs the city. I only hesitate in that I think (and hope) that in his future efforts, we will see improvements in the following ways:

I absolutely loved this book. My wife and I enjoyed listening to most of it together on car rides, and when we ran out of car rides we made time to sit and listen together at home.It took me forever to get through this. It felt like years went by while I tried to get to The Good Stuff. I can tolerate a lot, but what really agitates me in stories nowadays is that they are all so desperate to imitate Game of Thrones in the most shallow and easy way possible (so as to make oodles of money overnight) that they will throw in the trashiest of material and call it solid content. And you know what, people still eat it up and rave about the mature content being so much like their favorite story--Game of Thrones. This was one of those books that I thought was going to get 5 stars from me, but eventually ended up as 'merely quite good' in my mind. My second piece of advice to the writer, and warning perhaps to the reader, is that more could have been done to create separate voices for the different characters. When you read a true world-class fantasy or sci-fi novel, you can often see a difference in the way the characters talk, not just their accents or choice of ways to express themselves, but also in what they say based on their emotions and personalities. Ah, well, felicitations to you in respect of the superlative grace of your entry into our very humble boat, Master Lamora." Jean punctuated this statement by popping the remains of his apple into his mouth, stem and all, and producing a wet crunching noise.

In Lies, Lynch's low-life street thugs are vulgarian virtuosos. This might seem like a little thing, but it's not. It builds the world. It shows character. It helps make the story feel truly, perfectly grubby and real. I would have been up all night anyway," Jean added, "crying from the ache of rheumatism and lighting candles to ward off evil vapors." because we think the gods are saving him up for a really big death. Something with knives and hot irons—" I'll give credit when credit is due, the world building is sharp and the city feels alive. But ultimately the world is bloated with cities and places we never see, people who we never meet and have no connection to the plot, and the scenes are blurred and described in excruciating detail such that we never get to imagine even a single stray snowflake for ourselves. These potential cinematic morsels are all over Lynch’s novels, and they’d make for a captivating visual treat that would translate perfectly to the screen. Show me Camorr in all its shady criminal glory…show it to me through the eyes of a thief as he convinces a local noble to fork over half of his fortune.

Deluxe Signed Emporium Hardback Edition £75

You're one third bad intentions, one third pure avarice, and one eighth sawdust. What's left, I'll credit, must be brains.” Steals too much,” the Eyeless Priest mused. “Of all the complaints I never thought I’d hear from a man who trains little thieves for a living.”*** Vel Virazzo, Salon Corbeau, and Port Prodigal in the Ghostwind Isles are also major points of action in Red Seas Under Red Skies. Oh, you can stop poling the barge any time you can beat me hand to hand three falls out of five." Jean grinned, showing two rows of crooked brawler's teeth in a face that looked as though someone had set it on an anvil and tried to pound it into a more pleasing shape. "Besides, you're an apprentice in a proud trade, learning under the finest and most demanding masters it has to offer. Getting all the shit-work is excellent for your moral education."
