About this deal

Knight Sir Louis – storytelling and illustration workshop based on the Knight Sir Louis book series – key stage 2 The Brothers McLeod showcase their Channel 5 Milkshake! preschool animation (nominated for three British Animation Awards) and help their audience create a new house and family or character for Circle Square island. If there was a tenth house on the island... what would it be... and who would live there? Head writer Myles and show designer Greg will give an age appropriate behind the scenes look at making a TV animation. Charge into this hilarious and totally bonkers new series from BAFTA award-winning duo, The Brothers McLeod - perfect for fans of Wimpy Kid, Tom Gates and Mr Gum. This storyline and plot was brilliant and I loved all the intricacies of the plan, the journey and the final battle.

A ... huge thank you for coming to the Oxford Literary Festival last week and for the brilliant event. It was so much fun, and a terrific celebration of creativity. I know the grown-ups enjoyed it almost as much as the younger members of the audience, and they had an absolute ball!' There was just so much to keep any reader immersed and focussed right to the end. The perfect book for personal reading at home or before bed, but also a great addition to any school library too.

Advance Praise

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your AMAZING visit! The children and staff LOVED it and were so excited to see you and hear everything you had to say. We all really appreciate the time you gave, the different elements of the session and the brilliant resources you've shared. There is a real buzz around the classrooms and corridors and much excitement!' Knight Sir Louis, by the Brothers McLeod, is a book that plays with the convention of being a book, as much as does tell a very funny, beautifully random story about a brave Knight who must defeat the huge robotic Damsel, and various other nefarious baddies causing mayhem in the kingdom of King Burt the Not So Bad. In this book Knight Sir Louis and his friends take on a mission to save the world from the evil Splint, his family and the ice golems who want to freeze the world over and rule the new frozen land. Myles and Greg will cover the principles of creating an animated TV show. Creating compelling characters. Design. Storyboarding. Animation. Post production. Drawing on their BAFTA winning experience from more than two decades of making animation for TV, short film and online.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you from the staff and children at Stratford Primary - they were raving about your workshop and had such a super time. All the teachers commented on how engaged the children were and what a great opportunity it was for them all. Thank you so much.' Without a doubt this everso slightly bonkers book is one of the funniest, most original and random pieces of children’s literature you will read this year!

I loved the chapters and the little chapters in between when something happened that was worth mentioning. Like the chapter in which things go really bad. Or a chapter from the POV of the snowball. King Burt the Not Bad is in a huff with his chief dragon-slayer, Knight Sir Louis. So when a stranger with piercing green eyes and a devastating smile arrives at Castle Sideways, King Burt is thrilled and demotes Louis to chief cleaner. But Louis is suspicious about the stranger, Squire Lyme, with his charming compliments and endless supply of green gummies … with the help of his friends Reader Catalogue, Pearlin, his haiku-loving steed, Clunkalot as well as a few ogres and gnomes, our hero determines to get to the slimybottom of things …can Louis’ calm courage once again save the day? But before Knight Sir Louis can defeat the snowball he is summoned to a school near a volcano (because hey, why not) and there he learns that these people are time travels. From a time where the plans of the giant snowball succeeded. They are desperate to fix this timeline and their timeline and it seems that Knight Sir Louis is just the hero needed! I had a laugh when he was sorted into houses and that there was a guy who was just so Malfoy. I know that we live in a time that HP stuff isn't really cool anymore, but I just loved this parody on it. I loved meeting various people and see Knight Sir Louis make a friend and get to training so he would be fully ready! The little bits in between with the villagers was fun! At times I just wanted to continue so they were a bit of a distraction, but for most I liked them. And then when things really get in motion? That was just oodles of fun and I was rooting for everyone! There were some plot stuff that I didn't expect and that had me go OMG YES! That is brilliant! The ending was just fabulous and it was all I wanted + more!

In this book something ominous is happening again, it is getting colder and colder! Something strange is coming from the north. Are those snowball with eyes? I was invested! I needed to know what or who The Sinister Snowball is (and yes, he is really a snowball a very big one even) and what his plans were (sinister plans of course, but what was he planning for the planet/home of Knight Sir Louis). I loved reading about the various towns and parts of the world before it came close to Knight Sir Louis home/castle of King Burt. There are still so many places to explore and I hope we do so in next books (and maybe did in the previous books, I guess I got to get reading, haha). The second in the series about Knight Sir Louis, readers will love returning to this bonkers world! Absolutely hilarious nonsense. I even forgive them for spelling my name wrong in the title, that’s how funny it is. ― Louie Stowell, author of the LOKI: A BAD GOD’S GUIDE series The Brothers McLeod will help the audience create a knight or wizard character, a comedy adventure story in six panels and show them how to draw Knight Sir Louis step-by-step. Based on the successful Knight Sir Louis books, this workshop has already toured successfully in a variety of Midlands' schools with authors aloud. The Brothers McLeod are BAFTA award-winning illustrator-animator Greg and screenwriter Myles. They have written, produced and directed short films, children’s series and other original animations. They have worked on projects for Disney, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Science Museum (London), the BBC, Aardman Animation and many more.

Knight Sir Louis and the Dreadful Damsel, the first book in the series is out in August. Perfect for fans of the Treehouse Books, Barry Loser and Kid Normal, it's a completely bonkers story about the bravest boy knight and his adventures to save Squirrel Helm.

Creating Animation – how a TV animation is made – from idea to writing to storyboarding and animating – Secondary. Here, Greg gives us a sneaky peek at how he draws Clunkalot (or Clunkie as we like to call him) - Knight Sir Louis' trusty steed. Enjoy! However, my one complaint is that this is a book 5 in the Knight Sir Louis series and this is the first I've heard about it!! Where have I been!? Circle Square is an animated comedy about neighbours. Vanessa the Dragon, owner of the rainbow lighthouse, helps out with everyday dilemmas and each episode features a different friend needing her help (and sometimes she needs theirs!) The nine households in the community include a yeti, a family of emergency service owls, a keyboard and a drum, a family of wizards, a grumpy dog, an elderly adventuring bear and a couple of walking, talking pine trees. Their companionship also extends to neighbouring islands in the archipelago of the Wyndley Isles, and to friends and family who come to visit them. The double-headed dragon Borax is causing fiery mischief across the land. The only hope of stopping the fiendish lizard is a long-lost, ancient Thingamabob (a talisman with watery powers.) Who will find it? Who will come to the rescue. Well, obviously, Knight Sir Louis and his chums Clunkie the robot horse, Pearlin the Wizentor, Mr Catalogue the talking boar, and Dave the sword with a hat.
