new police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider), who has his idyllic summer "working vacation" spoiled when a badly What ensued was a brilliant model of alluding to terror rather than depicting it outright, and Spielberg's "workaround" Jaws' is a genuine masterpiece of suspense and terror, much of it thanks in large part to the editing work of Fields, which makes the film an excellent piece for study. All other areas also come together exceptionally well, from Spielberg's directing, Butler's photography and Williams' iconic theme. To put it more bluntly, it's a remarkable work in the art of horror — simple, efficient and just as effective today as ever. It's an important and significant piece in the history of cinema offering a great deal to discuss and analyze, but we'll leave it for now as a motion picture that should continue being cherished by future generations of film-lovers everywhere. conceive it now, but Steven Spielberg was hardly a blip on the Hollywood map when he ultimately landed the directorial Disappointing that there’s nothing new on-disc, but what’s here is fine. Just…fine. Across the hour or so’s worth of video material here, there’s some decent insight into the behind-the-scenes nightmare that was production and those involved. But it really would have been nice for something new, especially as there has appeared to be numerous interviews with various cast members popping up on YouTube recently to celebrate this film’s 45 th anniversary.Life seems to be going swimmingly well for the folks of Amity Island. A new Holiday Inn is opening, the sun is hot, the sand is warm, the water is

If there’s ever a movie in which sound plays a role, I’d say it has to be Jaws. John Williams created one of the most iconic scores in the history of cinema. I remember how good the DTS HD Master Audio sound mix was on the previously-released Blu-ray and now we’ve got a Dolby Atmos mix that ups the ante yet again. The result is nothing short of perfection. Spielberg explains on the featurette how the individual elements were used to make the sound “move” from left to right and add in surrounds. Of course the score is of the utmost importance and it’s never sounded better. I remember in some earlier versions of the film, there was a bit of a loss when it came to the dialogue. This isn’t the case here as it sounds sharp and crisp. This is another testament to the restoration of this film and I’ve simply never heard it sound more amazing than it does here. Supplements: What are the extras? textures, clothing elements, and environments, all bolstered over the previous Blu-ray for sheer complexity, visible intricacy, and overall stability even

Brody, a salty seaman named Quint (Robert Shaw) and a young marine biologist named Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) The Making of Jaws (SD, 123 min) — The original documentary about the history of the production which was originally made for the Signature Collection laserdisc. Mostly a collection of interviews with the cast & crew and author Peter Benchley sharing experiences and anecdotes, the piece is rather exhaustive and amusingly informative. There is a great deal to learn from the doc about the pre, during and post-production challenges while enjoying never-before-seen videos of real-life sharks, hearing stories about working on the set and tons of BTS footage throughout.
