About this deal

Until about 50-60% the story was really good, I liked it. The dialogues were a little strange here and there, but I wasn't bothered, because the anticipation was strong and the tension was there, Phoenix and Holden started hooking up and were keeping it on the down low, I was excited about where it would lead, was up for a lot of secret hot sex and really wanted for that to continue. Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. i'm sorry in advance for how long this review will be, i was just so invested in these characters 😭🩷 Regardless, I’m looking forward to the next books in the series even if I expected a different pairing for the next one. It seemed like Phoenix was a character that the author apparently had a big problem with, so for Phoenix, a college guy who's a serial monogamist and has been nothing but perfect all his life, it's the redeeming he has to do and he's doing it in the worst way possible.

So, I did not expect to love this lol. Mostly because Iced Out didn’t work for me AND Chelsea talked about how she HATED this book while writing it. Which I should’ve known would mean I’d love it because girlie hates Don't You Dare and that’s one of my all time faves. Someone likes to dig a hole for himself in every occasion that presents him, I have never seen anyone that crazy and stupid, falling for such obvious provocations... (in a good way, he's adorable) 😅🤣 This was just LOVELY. It's a true hate to love story that hits you right in the feels. My heart ached for Quinton, who's so rich and yet yearning for so many simple things he's always been denied. For Oakley, who had to carry a legacy on his shoulders while being out on a typically "manly" sport. The first 25% of this book was a little slow for me but once I got past that point I was loving it. There was the right amount of push and pull and their chemistry was sizzling. I think some people may be bothered by how many sex scenes are in this book. I wasn’t bothered by it because they establish an enemies with benefits situation so I expected it. So I say don’t get put off by this because you do get to see their connection build while being physical with each other, but also outside of that too. I find it didn’t take away from seeing their development. And so, this quirky banter throughout the book, it's what made it a good and a fun read. I can actually say I laughed a few times, so not so bad! 🤔😂

This concept is definitely one I haven’t read much of before and I thought it was really well done. From the very beginning I was interested and didn’t want to put it down! Holden and Phoenix were so good together. Their starting was not great. There were a lot of lies that ended up hurting a lot of people including them and it was a lot. But life is messy and people don’t make great choices sometimes. This book was about these two learning to make the choices that are right for them! Why would I need porn when I'm sleeping with you?" A thoughtful look crosses his face before he nods. "Fair point." I am excited to read book 2. I know my boy Holden is gonna be involved in some love shenanigans, so looking forward to it! Turns out, there is one more thing they have in common that they discover at one of the Leighton U parties and Quinton tries to strike a bargain of sorts, but Oakley isn't having it. Yet, days later Oakley is still thinking about the bad boy with a temper and his crazy idea is starting to hold merit.Holden and Phoenix were exactly what I'd hoped for. There was fire between them from the start, since they were enemies of a sort. Their pranks to try and antagonize each other were hilarious, mixed with an intense sexual tension. When the relationship between the two began to develop, I was transported by the intensity of their desire, but also by the underlying emotions. when she said this book wasnt going to be for everyone damn did i not think that was going to include myself lol.

all three boys really got on my nerves during that first 15% i didnt see how any of them could be friends because in truth all of them were shit friends. kason and phoenix more so, holden just felt like an asshole for the sake of protecting himself kind of shit friend. eventually kason fell out of the story a bit interaction wise and then i really started to fall for phoenix and especially holden. seeing holden with charlotte was actually the turning point for me and made me really adore him. For one thing, the "rivalry" starts out of nowhere and keeps going for no reason. They're just angry at each other and start sniping because they just "have that effect" on each other and it just feels so lazy. Give them a legitimate reason for not liking each other or then every time they start arguing, it's boring and nonsensical at best, and annoying and infuriating at worst.

Customer reviews

This book is wonderful. I truly couldn't stop reading it! I was wondering if I should read this or Don't You Dare first and it was Ki Stephens who told me this one was better. So, I obviously got it. Thanks to Ki for telling me because I would have not experienced this book otherwise. And oh boy, would I have been missing out HARD. I will say, I really liked the reveal at the climax, I liked the way Oakley was not let off the hook for what he'd done, because that had been bothering me since the beginning. I liked how hard he had to work for it, how much he longed and yearned for Quinn because I think Quinn really deserved it, and I liked those last few chapters. holden being the biggest golden retriever is honestly not what i had expected and i loved every god damn moment of his soft side coming out, this boy truly deserved the world and i think he got dealt a really shit hand. i dont think phoenix deserved him whatsoever. if you’ve read dont you dare think of how mad you were at Pen during the third act and magnify it by infinity and thats how youre going to feel about phoenix lol Warning: this isn’t a perfect novel at all. I tend to rate a book on how it makes me feel. I’ve not had a good week and this book found me at the exact right time. If I had read it another day? It might’ve been four stars but this made me happy and it made me smile and it made me swoon and it made me forget all my problems for five hours while I read it.
