Is there anything more comforting than the scent of your favourite perfume? A decent dupe of it, maybe. My go-to perfume is Thierry Mugler’s Alien and has been for the last few years. It’s rare that I’ll deviate from it, but I recently came across a good dupe that’s useful on the days I don’t fancy wearing my good perfume. While I’m usually comfortable in the knowledge that I’ve used Alien in the morning and it’ll last all day, I took to carrying Blossom around with me as it seemed to fade after an hour or two. The supermarket chain also has a range of perfumes, which look and smell strangely familiar. Aldi's 'Hotel Collection' perfumes have a similar vibe to the Jo Malone fragrance range, but come in at a tiny fraction of the price of course.

With that in mind, we decided to put a range of perfume dupes, said to be similar to high street and designer favourites to the test, to see how they held up. Here's the results: Layering Lab Blossom Body Mist Dupe for: Thierry Mugler’s Alien

Blossom is just as floral and feels just as luxurious as Alien, but certainly doesn’t last as long. I opted for Superdrug’s Layering Lab Body Mist in the scent Paradise, which is meant to be a dupe of Paco Rabanne’s popular fragrance Olympea. I don’t think I’m quite ready to abandon Alien, but Superdrug’s Blossom certainly makes a decent stand in. Jo Malone's Velvet Rose & Oud has been my go-to evening perfume for the last few years, so when I first came across Aldi's Hotel Collection No. 14 Velvety Rose, I didn't quite know how to feel.

With decent perfumes being pretty pricey, I’m often on the hunt for a good dupe so was keen to try Superdrug’s Layering Lab range.

How can you be sure they’re actually similar scents to the original? Do they last as long or smell as strong as you’d like? Isoeugenol; Benzyl Salicylate. 1- (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydro-2,3,8,8-tetramethyl-2-naphthyl) Ethanone; 1,3-benzodioxole-5-carbaldehyde; Alpha-iso-methylionone;Linalool. Aldi is certainly know for its dupes, from its Cuthbert the Caterpillar controversy and 'Mint Bubbly' take on Aeros, to its Lacura range, which has versions of best-selling beauty products by Liz Earle, Nivea, Pixi and more.I couldn’t get my hands on the eau de toilette, but I did get the body mist - and it didn’t disappoint.
