About this deal

They certainly are where I live, in the middle of nowhere. In our last home more horses than humans came up our lane. I think the foxhunting ban may have thinned the equestrian landscape a little, but I do believe where there are teenage girls there will always be horses… You’ve had an enviable career and written many very successful books. How has your writing process changed since your first book? Finale non troppo verosimile (con la scampagnata in Francia…) ma molto, molto dolce, molto alla Moyes per intenderci e io ho adorato questa cosa… perché è questa la Moyes che voglio!

After hours of incessant conflict and arguments the final epilogue has the main characters implausibly transformed into a saccharine-sweet happy family. ;) Certainly the author captured the connection possible between horse and human, and I loved the quotes from Xenophon at the beginning of each chapter. Made me want to go read his book again! I really loved this book for teaching me about the Le Cadre Noir academy in France. I had never heard of it; but, I was aware of the Spanish Riding School of Vienna and the famous Lippizaner horses. The horses and their performances are beautiful and awe-inspiring. The YouTube videos of Le Cadre Noir performances are equally as breathtaking. You write about the foster parent system quite a bit in this book. Were you ever a foster parent or know anyone who was? Would you ever consider being one? Do you think the current system for taking care of these children is working?Jojo Moyes has another hit novel on her hands, and just like ME BEFORE YOU, it would make a great movie. The story really draws you in, especially when she makes the main character realize that she has nothing left in the world but herself." Although Natasha and Mac have their ups and downs as they try to figure out their mess of a marriage, the one thing that is binding them together is Sarah. They obviously still love each other, but will this be enough to revive their relationship and become a family? THE HORSE DANCER is not a young adult novel, but Moyes succeeds in creating a typical teenage character. Sarah tries desperately to do everything on her own without help, but she is just not mature enough, despite being headstrong and incredibly gutsy. She thinks she can handle everything that is happening to her, yet she needs adult supervision and boundaries. However, she is still very likable, and as a reader it is easy to see when she is trying her best to do the right thing. Moyes carefully balances her teenage nature with the depth of someone who is in over her head. When Sarah’s grandfather gives her a beautiful horse named Boo—hoping that one day she’ll follow in his footsteps to join an elite French riding school, away from their gritty London neighborhood—she quietly trains in city’s parks and alleys. But then her grandfather falls ill, and Sarah must juggle horsemanship with school and hospital visits.

Some characters spring into your imagination fully formed, and Cowboy John was one of them. He is a loose amalgam of many of the horsemen I knew—not conventional horsemen by many people’s standards but masters of their domains and usually highly characterful! I loved writing him. When Captain is unavailable to Sarah, due to health problems, she is unexpectedly thrust into the lives of Natasha, a solicitor advocate and her soon-to-be ex-husband and commercial photographer Mac. Unsure and untrusting Sarah tries to weave her way through life’s challenges by keeping things close to the vest. All the while trying to navigate Natasha and Mac’s challenging relationship. Even if you’re not horsey I think you would still enjoy this book as it describes the way of life in such a way not to alienate readers. The book isn’t 100% horses it also follows a couple going through a divorse. I think if you weren’t into horses that you would still find it a great read as it is so well written. In the book, Sarah’s London is very different from Natasha’s London, but like many cities around the world, Sarah’s poor neighborhood is becoming gentrified. Is this true of London? And how do you feel about those poorer neighborhoods disappearing? Meanwhile Natasha a children’s lawyer, along with her husband Mac of whom she recently separated from crosses paths with Sarah after her grand father had fallen ill and ends up taking her under her wing. Sarah is hiding something and it ends up changing all of their lives. Photo by Tatiana Twinslol on Pexels.com The CharactersFrom the New York Times bestselling author of The Giver of Stars and the forthcoming Someone Else's Shoes, a novel about a lost girl and her horse, the enduring strength of friendship, and how even the smallest choices can change everything In this book, Natasha struggles with her feelings about motherhood. As the mother of three children yourself, did you experience any of the same feelings before they were born? Do you think it’s getting harder or easier for working women to balance a career and children? As a young man, Henri Lachapelle is the star of La Cadre Noir, an elite group of horsemen in the French city of Saumur. But when he meets Florence, it’s love at first sight and he gives it all up to be with her in England. Now, he lives on a London estate with his granddaughter Sarah but his dream lives on. In a stable under railway arches, lives Boo, a Selle Francais he bought as a colt for Sarah; together they train him and he gives them purpose. But when Henri suffers a stroke, Sarah must go into foster care and do whatever it takes to not be parted from Boo, even if that means hiding his existence.
