This watch is super. The watch actually looks better than the pictures, with a nice glossy band. While I don’t live near the shore for the tides to be a big benefit, it’s still looks cool, and the moon phase feature is spot on. The watch sits nicely on the wrist and is very light. This one was made in Thailand. Almost all regular modules with time, calendar, alarm, timer, and stopwatch functions have been enhanced with a world time function also. While this is sufficient for most of us, it seems that there was a demand for additional functionality. Quite specific functionality, at that. This module adds tidal information and phases of the moon indication. Casio produced several modules providing this functionality; battery-operated modules, solar-powered modules, and even modules combined with Multi Band 6 time reception. Module 3215 seems the most sophisticated, it’s solar-powered and has Multi Band 6 reception. The first thing that jumps out when unboxing the GW-S5600-1JF: the Carbon Fiber Insert Construction proclamation running the length of the strap. Just in case you missed it, Casio printed another “Carbon Fiber” label at the top of the strap. Features the surfing-oriented functions include Tide Graph, Moon Data, and temperature measurement.

I am very happy with this watch, solar powered so should not have any battery issue for a very long time. I wish the Radio time synchronization was also possible in the Southern Hemisphere as I visit there occasionally. When setting the radio sync - remember to set the Day Light Saving correctly - the watch did not want to sync properly until I did that. The Tide function is nice, I have it set for the closest area to me, I will try the feature at some point where you set it for exactly where you stay, and not relying on the cities they have programed into the watch. The count down timer is nice, I have set it for an alternating 3min/1 min for 10 repeats for when I am training on the Spinning bike.Moon phase display is very accurate. You can see the time in different cities too - also nice.Personally I would have preferred a less colorful strap and case. I would have liked something that had the features but more stealthy/muted Multi-Function Alarms: 1. Daily Alarm; 2. Monthly Alarm; 3. (An upgraded version, the GWX-5600, with Tough Solar and Multi-Band 6, is a regular model in Japan and sometimes makes a worldwide appearance.) Excellent watch. I love the atomic time keeping, the tide feature is cool too. It is extremely durable and accurate. One of the best sport watches I've ever owned.

Phew, that was but a mouthful. In everyday use, all this functionality comes at a price though: a clunky and difficult user interface, and here are the main culprits. The functions you can operate and browse through using three of the four pushers – two on the left and the lower one on the right. While the pushers look nice and small, almost flush with the case, they are rather difficult to use.
