About this deal

Glenglassaugh 'Revival' is the first widely-available single malt from the 'new' distillery and was matured in both first and refill casks and finished in first-fill oloroso sherry butts for a period of six months. Non chill filtered. With water: When a little water is added, the scent leans towards orange, and the wine-like notes become more subdued. Palate: With water: Reduction brings out a slight fruity note, with hints of apricot and pear emerging. However, there are not many other notable changes to the aroma profile. Palate: In 2009 the company also introduced two new innovative products which are produced using the same process as that used for making single malt scotch whisky but without the ageing process. "The Spirit Drink that dare not speak its name" is the result of 1 mash of malted barley, fermented and distilled twice. The product is bottled without ageing at 50% abv. Glenglassaugh’s core range is made of Revival, Evolution and Torfa, all using whisky distilled since its reopening, as well as 30, 40- and 51-year-old expressions, using whisky from its previous era. In addition to those, we can find some limited expressions and single casks being released. Glenglassaugh Revival Review

The brand’s previous core range – Revival, Evolution and Torfa – has been discontinued and the whiskies are no longer being bottled. While the Glenglassaugh Evolution whisky is an improvement over the Revival expression, it falls a little short in terms of complexity. However, it’s worth noting that the whisky is relatively young, which may account for this. Rating: 83/100 To celebrate the brand’s relaunch, Glenglassaugh has partnered with landscape photographer Richard Gaston to create a series of snaps that capture the distillery’s links to the land and sea. First tasted January 2013: [from a 10 ml sample]. Pale gold. Scents of flat ginger beer and vague cereals present in the initial pass, gaining sweetness and definition with subsequent sniffs. Opens light and lively in the mouth though a tad sulphury followed by bittersweet spices at mid palate. Warming spirit. Thins out, tailing off to a delicate and rather fleeting conclusion. 86 points A late-Victorian distillery, Glenglassaugh was built in 1874 by local businessman James Moir and 18 years later became part of Highland Distillers. It didn’t have a huge amount of time to prove itself as a downturn in the market saw it close in 1907 and not re-open until 1960, when once again the market was showing a sharp increase.

It was matured in Bourbon, Sherry and red wine casks and provides a nose of ripe apricot, figs and vanilla, with flavours of pistachio, dates, sweet fig, morello cherry and whipped cream. Dry apricot with bits of butterscotch and vanilla. Quite sweet. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service.

With water: When a few drops are added, the nose takes on a new dimension. The aroma becomes richer and creamier, with a buttery note and a fresh pastry scent. Palate: Neat: The palate showcases a much stronger wine-like character than the nose. It carries a slightly tannic taste, reminiscent of the sediment found at the bottom of a bottle of red wine. Along with a ginger spiciness, there are notes of mandarin peel and grapefruit juice, although it finishes quite pungent. Today I look at the Glenglassaugh Revival whisky. What a great name for a whisky release: Revival. I realised that this whisky comes with a unique story. The Glenglassaugh distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the Highland Region.
