On the palate, the whisky is sweet and fruity. There are notes of stone fruits, along with hints of tropical fruits of melon and mango. There are also caramel and some slight marzipan notes accompanied by custard-like notes of creamy vanilla.

JM: The Glen Grant has not released a lot of cask-finished expressions. There was a Port cask finished from The Glen Grant a few years ago that was a distillery exclusive. There are also some expressions from the 1980s, like the Director’s Reserve, that, I believe, showed some Sherry influence. Are there other cask-finished expressions from The Glen Grant? Are you planning more cask-finished whiskies in the future?My focus is to help ensure we stay true to the tradition and heritage of The Glen Grant while also innovating for the future. One of my happiest changes has been expanding our family of whiskies, with the 15-year-old, 18-year-old, and now the 21.

More dynamic than the aroma, the palate delivers notes of malt, complex fruit, honey, Nilla Wafers, almonds and light bits of spice, cocoa and buttery toffee. It still comes across a bit light, but it’s a vast improvement over the GG12. The old bottles had a sense of history and it felt like you were pouring a SCOTCH when you held the bottle. That sense of history and tradition is something that drew me whisk(e)y in the first place and I don’t get that feeling in the new design.JM: The Glen Grant matures particularly well in Sherry casks. Maturation in Sherry butts was typical of The Glen Grant in the past. Over the last half-century, however, the distillery has generally opted to release ex-bourbon cask matured expressions. Most of the Sherry cask expressions have been released by independent bottlers. JM: Whisky-related tourism has been a rapidly growing segment of the Scotch whisky industry. The Glen Grant has a new visitor center, and the distillery is located in an exceptional botanical garden that was created by Major Grant almost a century ago. What’s The Glen Grant doing to encourage whisky tourism, and how do you expect it to impact the brand?

Was Campari just focused on their other brands? Did they emphasize other markets I knew less about? What factors do we not know of that resulted in a delay of their expanding markets? Regardless, it seems that their 18 year old’s place in Jim Murray’s top three whiskeys for consecutive years did wonders for their exposure. This resulted in the brand increasing in visibility… even in Manila, where the Scotch scene can be underwhelming.Deeply layered and complex, this rich and vibrant whisky delivers beautifully intricate flavours of malted caramel, vanilla, and raisins and lingers with a long, sweet, and pleasantly spicy finish.” I think there’s no better way to foster an appreciation of single malt whiskies than by visiting the home of your favorite whisky in person. We are fortunate to have many visitors to the distillery. It’s important for us to continue to welcome visitors from all over the world to The Glen Grant. We have some exciting plans ahead for our distillery experience, which we hope to share more about soon.

So far, the response to The Glen Grant’s full repertoire of luxury single malt offerings is truly wonderful. The future looks bright for our expanding product range and intriguing new whisky releases like The Glen Grant 21-Year-Old. In 1972, the Glenlivet and Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd amalgamated with the blending concerns of Hill, Thomson and Co.Ltd and Longmorn Distilleries Ltd to become The Glenlivet Distillers Ltd. The original family interest in the distilleries was maintained, with two substantial outside shareholders: Courage Ltd, the brewing concern and Suntory Ltd, the Japanese distilling company. Glen Grant distillery was founded in 1840 in Rothes, Speyside, and produces single malt Scotch whisky. A visit to The Glen Grant is never complete without a walk through our ‘Garden of Splendours,' our 27-acre Victorian garden cultivated with eclectic plants from the Major’s adventures around the world. It is the only garden of its kind in Scotland. Under the deft hand of Master Blender Rachel Barrie, all three Brown Forman Distilleries, GlenDronach, Benriach and Glenglassaugh, have shown dramatic improvement in the quality of their whisky ranges. In 2021, they took home 13 Double Gold medals for their single malt Scotch whiskies. There are many outstanding Master Blenders in the Scotch whisky industry, but Barrie is rapidly showing she is in a class of her own!If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. DM: Our signature flavor profile – singularly aromatic with delicately fruity floral and nutty notes – is delivered in part by maturation in the best bourbon barrels, and we will continue to stay true to who we are. That said, The Glen Grant does mature beautifully in Sherry and other types of casks, which is why we use them for select releases. Also, many of our older whiskies were aged in ex-Sherry barrels, so it’s an influence we often see in our older releases. On a personal esthetic note I don’t care for the new bottle and label design. Aspects of it echos current Macallan design which is “a tremendously popular spirit among Millennials” and it feels like that’s the same demo Glen Grant is going for with this new look.
