About this deal

It features wall mounted storage bins and floating shelves that all hang on French cleats! Both of the drawer units shown below hang on a single French cleat to ensure that the tops are perfectly even. How to install a French cleat We have made a timber jig for this construction to aid speed, accuracy and repetition. If you prefer, you can measure and mark as you work, using a tape measure or metal ruler. Make sure to level the cleat while installing — small adjustments to level the cleat can be made by moving slightly in the slotted screw holes before tightening the cleat to the wall. Be sure that the type of adhesive you use works well with the aluminum cleat as well as the material your frame is made of. You also have to make sure that it has a strong hold on both surfaces. Unfortunately, we cannot advise on how much weight the cleats can hold using adhesive, so this would require some testing. For example, I used 2x4s to install a hangboard mount for my son. It holds his weight easily, even as he does pull ups! He has two different hangboard styles, and the French cleat allows him to switch them out in seconds.

If you answered the latter, we can’t blame you. Using the wrong picture hanging hardware can be a disaster waiting to happen— especially when hanging large and heavy items. Frames will fall, mirrors will break, and expensive art will lose its value. Attach the other cleat to the wall. Wall cleat should be installed with screw holes at the bottom using the #8 x 1” screw and plastic wall anchors. For square or rectangular objects, know the length. For circular objects, know the diameter. It’s as easy as that. These details will help you determine the cleat length you should use according to the rule of thumb. Somewhere on your saw, there should be a knob that allows you to tilt the blade. Loosen the knob, then set the angle for 45 degrees. There’s lots of room for flexibility with the scale of French cleat storage systems. They can be made in any length and size to suit your home. Calculate the dimensions of your space to work out the size and number of cleats you can accommodate. Question: do you feel confident when you hang something big on the wall, or are you scared that your expensive mirror or artwork might fall and crash into pieces?

If you've tried looking up "cleats" on the internet, the first few results you'll probably get would be all about wooden cleats. There's not much information about aluminum cleats out there, so we took it upon ourselves to compare both types. I like to make these cuts on top of a sheet of foam insulation that I keep around just for this purpose. It keeps the entire board supported, and I can cut into it without damaging my workbench underneath! Set the blade angle Measure the distance from the edge of the board to the mark. If you're using a table saw, set the fence to that distance. For a circular saw or jig saw, draw a line down the length of the board. Use an edge guide for circular saw or jig saw I've used French cleats, both these wooden DIY versions and metal store-bought ones, for a variety of different projects over the years. Here's some ideas for how to use them around the home. HeadboardTo maximise the sheet timber, we have designed our cleats so that they are 5 inches or approximately 130mm wide. You can easily tweak this measurement to suit your space and custom design. Its design, safety features, material and method in hanging are what makes the overall quality of French Cleats a crowd-favorite. With these in mind, it’s safe to say that they are the go-to hanging hardware when you want to hang something on the wall with confidence. Installing cleats can be intimidating. We’ve been there and it isn’t easy having to figure it out on your own. That’s why we’re here to help! Consider the tolerance, runout and alignment of your power saw blades when making cuts. Depending on the tolerance of your tools, you may find that dimensions are adjusted by approximately 3mm. That’s why knowing what picture hanger is best for hanging large and heavy objects is very important. You should be able to hang things on the wall with confidence, not fear .
