About this deal

The scarf appeared in the Matrix on Gallifrey when it was used to prevent the Doctor from falling down a cliff face. However, the scarf disappeared not long afterwards. ( TV: The Deadly Assassin) Some of those Who fans learn to knit just so they can knit a who scarf. I admire people who do that, as a matter of fact.

The Seventh Doctor used the tartan scarf from his newly found outfit to stall the First Rani as he tried to escape her laboratory. ( TV: Time and the Rani) The Doctor replaced the lost scarf with a paisley one in the TARDIS wardrobe. ( PROSE: The Useful Pile) Tom Baker wore several scarves during his seven series as the Doctor. Each one had its own unique characteristics. Select the links above for detailed information about each scarf including patterns, knitting specifications and yarn suggestions. There are also sections featuring the history of the design, tips for scarf construction, a gallery of scarves knitted by fans (and me) plus some fun ephemera. To me, the ‘dumb’ ones would be the people (especially other Who fans)that criticize WHO fans for ANY reason at all. The original scarf was probably somewhat light DK wool and wool blends, but sport, DK and light worsted will work fine. There is no reason to alter the pattern unless you knit rather loosely or quite tightly. Shortly after regeneration, the Twelfth Doctor commented that he used to have a scarf when noting that he felt cold, but dismissed the memory as he considered the scarf as having looked ridiculous. ( TV: Deep Breath) The number of tassels changed as the scarf was damaged and repaired, but it started out with 12 (proven by a photo at last!). By Season 13, the now gold end of the scarf still had 12 tassels, but I haven't quite nailed down the number for Season 14. The stunt duplicate has 11 tassels. Tassel instructions are planned to be added to the knitting tips section. Play The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Video Game Free Online, Designed by Douglas Adams in 1984

You might find these colors dark - especially the tan. Studio lighting and video recording often made the scarf seem lighter than it is. The hues in photographs also tend to wander. Less about color research... Just for fun, I will suppose that the number of rows is the “significand” and the color coded base 60 number is the “manissa”. When June Hudson was asked to design a new outfit for the Doctor at the start of season 18, she was given the option to omit the scarf by producer John Nathan-Turner. Eventually, she decided the scarf had become too much a part of the Doctor's image and designed a new one to go with the burgundy colour scheme of the Doctor's new outfit. For a very in-depth look at the scarves, including Pantone color references and wool brands, there is nothing better than DoctorWhoScarf.com. So, get knitting, Who-vians! Manufacturers often seem to arbitrarily label the gauge of their yarn. They are not to be trusted. The reality is that there are many incremental gauges to say the least of the differing textures and number of plies. This creates further headaches for those of us who like to mix brands, but the updated suggestions are refined to categories for easier compatibility. Some yarn choices appear in more than one category. There is a little wiggle room in the gauge of these, but you should not experience any radical differences. Pantone colors and yarn swatches were evaluated directly against the Shada scarf to make these color selections. The colors presented do not to significantly vary from the Shada scarf in its present state and do not make the subtle distinctions between the original and stunt portions (possibly something to do later). I do not believe that it has enough wear or fading to really be concerned about. The intensity of new yarn is generally enough of a fix. This choice is reinforced by a comparison to the Today Promotions scarves, the reference for which is believed to have been the actual stunt duplicate. Those scarves are wool blend and still match the real thing very closely, which suggests that the Shada scarf is fairly stable despite its history of wear.

While listing pointless facts to defeat the Prolocture, the Doctor described five of the colours of his scarf as " red, green, chestnut, purple, and grey." ( AUDIO: Babblesphere) The original scarf only lasted a few episodes, then was altered, replaced, and subtly changed as the show went on. There were stunt scarves for stand-ins. Near the end of this incarnation, the Doctor switched to a longer scarf, but coloured in shades of burgundy. ( PROSE: Into the Silent Land) However, his original scarf was kept on a hatstand in the console room. ( TV: Warriors' Gate)So what if it never ‘occurred’ to YOU? That doesn’t make it ‘dumb’‘Crass’ or ‘gross.’However I do find your choice of words to describe your thoughts to be quite…oh what are the words I’m looking for?? Oh I know! Elementary and juvenile. On the Nerva station, the Fourth Doctor made an unsuccessful attempt to use the scarf to deactivate the Auto guard. ( TV: The Ark in Space) It was also used to measure a puzzle. ( TV: Pyramids of Mars) The TARDIS wardrobe contained a multi-coloured scarf during the Doctor's tenth incarnation. ( TV: The Christmas Invasion) Given Time Lord intellect, what if they used base 60 like they did in Babylon and much of the ancient world.

The scarf was used as a lead to drag K9 about when his power had run down. ( TV: The Invisible Enemy)The Doctor's scarf had been wound about Stimson's corpse by his Foamasi killer in an attempt to frame the Doctor for the murder. ( TV: The Leisure Hive)
