Like with any wood restoration task, the more effort you put into the preparation, the better the result. In this case, it is sanding and cleaning the wood. Sanding removes the old finish, and cleaning helps removing any staining from the wood and also removes any dirt that would effect the finish. If the worktop has a heavy coating of an old wax or oil, you'll need to sand this off first. Use our Sanding Pads to do this.
The fine grit lightly smooths (de-nibs) microscopic "nibs" or "bumps" that can occur in-between varnish coats from settled, trapped dust. With a specially woven structure that tends to resist clogging from wood particles, these pads can be used dry or wet for the removal of surface impurities from wood and furniture including dirt and oxides. Our Danish Oil is a unique blend of natural oils and resins that penetrate deep into all interior and exterior wood and dries to provide a hard, durable, and lustrous satin finish, making it suitable for high use areas such as flooring, dining tables and kitchen worktops. Once the last coat of Danish Oil has dried and you have smoothed over the surface with a De-nibbing Pad, you can use the wood as normal.
