Should a child or a vulnerable person vanish, it’s an urgent matter that needs to be treated seriously, but in Macbeth’s experience, most other people who go missing tend to turn up again before long. So when Kate Hibbert disappears after having last been seen struggling along the road with a heavy suitcase, he is convinced she has gone travelling and reluctantly goes through the motions of investigating.

One thing is for certain, however, and that is that the death of this reporter may end up unraveling the secrets of several other guilty parties. The skeletons are not just hanging out in the closets– they’re ready to jump on out. This story is told from the point of view of the secretary. Even then, Hibbert gave him no peace. She was constantly round at their cottage, happily helping Clara to bring in the well done 2023-02-06T18:47:15Z Buy Death of a Traitor by M.C. Beaton, read by David Monteath (Audiobook extract) I have read every Hamish Macbeth story and I am extremely glad that R. W. Green has continued the series for M. C. Beaton. I actually look forward to reading about the usual cast of characters, pets, and Hamish’s ex-girlfriends, and enjoyed the descriptions of the scenic areas of Scotland where these stories take place. The wretch, concentred all in self, Living, shall forfeit fair renown, And, doubly dying, shall go down

M.C. Beaton was a Scottish author of fictional mystery and historical romance novels. She was an acclaimed author that was known to many readers for her popular fictional Agatha Raisin series. The series has been a big success and reached best selling status. M.C. Beaton unfortunately passed away on December 30th, 2019. M.C. Beaton was the pen name used by real life individual Marion Chesney. A missing person report is not usually something that Hamish Macbeth sees as cause for undue distress. Longing for escape? Tired of waiting for Brigadoon to materialize? Time for a trip to Lochdubh, the scenic, if somnolent, village in the Scottish Highlands where M. C. Beaton sets her beguiling whodunits featuring Constable Hamish Macbeth."-- New York Times Book Review Aye, that was a grand day, Bonnie,” Gregor said softly, the binoculars pressed tight against his eyes. “We were rebuilding the dyke all the way up in the top pasture, weren’t we? We could hear Clara going mental even from there—such language as I’ve never before heard from her. She was right ashamed of the blasphemy afterwards. Attended the kirk every Sunday morning for a month. The bloody Hibbert woman steered well clear of us after that. But where has she got to now, eh?”She was one of the society ladies that was known for her work as well as her money and good marriage, before her husband died. Now it appears that she is to join him. She didn’t have that many enemies, although with an active printed gossip column, Now it’s up to Hamish to find out who did it.– even if this local cop doesn’t have a clue. The victim in question is Lady Jane Winters, a tabloid reporter in addition to traveling in wealthy and connected circles. It is a fancy, but I wonder what happens to characters when their author dies. I still regret the state in which one of my favorite characters , Peter McGarr was left when his author, Bartholomew Gill, died suddenly. He also finds that he gets further along with the genersous help of a woman named Priscilla, a beautiful blonde woman that was born into money, This local cop is inspired to do his best to try and solve the case, but is he going to find out who did it or is he destined to fail? Anything could happen in this exciting first novel in the series! If you liked this first book, then you’ll definitely like the ones that come after. In this latest adventure of our Scottish friend Hamish MacBeth we find him to use is humble, low-key, but extremely smart way to solving murders again. He is always chastised and underappreciated, but he always comes out on top, providing the solution to the crime. The humor in this story is fun, though not laugh-out-loud, and the new and reappearing characters are very well developed. The story is intricate, yet it is a smooth read. I highly recommend it.In Agatha and Hamish, Beaton has created a pair of outsiders who complement each other in their longing for acceptance in their adopted communities. However, while outgoing, abrasive, and insecure, Agatha seeks fame and glory. Reserved and confident Hamish is happy to allow his superiors to stand in the spotlight. Regarding love, Agatha is too stubborn to recognize when true love stands right in front of her, and Hamish falls in love too easily with the wrong women. Despite their differences, both sleuths are lawbreakers, animal lovers, and loyal friends to the end. Befuddled, earnest and utterly endearing, Hamish makes his triumphs sweetly satisfying.' Publishers Weekly Forced to face this reality, Macbeth is going to have to face the facts that his role is as a constable and not as the husband to be of Priscilla. That would be nice, though. He has been in love with her for some time, but it appears that he is going to have to put aside his own feelings for the good of his own heart and the job as well. That is a good thing that he has decided to focus on his public duty, because the job has never needed him more. Some terrific comic moments (reminiscent of All Creatures Great and Small) . . . Long live Macbeth, Sergeant of Scotland!"-- Booklist on Death of a Green-Eyed Monster (Starred Review) Kate Hibbert is all too eager to lend a hand to her neighbors. Although she has been a resident of the sleepy village of Lochdubh for only a year, in that time Kate has alienated one too many of its residents with her interfering—and not entirely well-intentioned—ways. When Kate’s neighbor sees her lugging a heavy suitcase to the bus stop, he hopes that the prying woman is leaving for good. But two weeks later, Kate’s cousin arrives in town with the news that Kate has gone missing—and she demands that the local police step in.

The gossipy and opinionated Currie sisters have one outing only, so much of the fun from their dialogue is removed. I don't think Angela Brodie appeared at all. Angus the Seer is observed from a distance only. Inspector Jimmy Anderson is more of a constant though, and we see a glimmer that his cadging of a 'wee dram' at Macbeth's expense may be coming to an end. At least, the villainous Chief Inspector Blair doesn't attempt any further insane plots against Macbeth and Superintendent Daviot is his usual politically cautious self. Of course past loves Patricia Halburton-Smythe and Elspeth Grant appear as well. The real stars of the cameos are Macbeth's pets. the dog Lugs (Scots for "ears") and the wildcat Sonsie (Scots for "cheeky") who put up a ferocious defense when their & Macbeth's home is pillaged by villains. Cozy Case Files Volume 6 (By: Carolyn Haines,Donna Andrews,Cate Conte,Kylie Logan,Leonard Goldberg,Allison Montclair,Ellen Hart,Sheila Connolly,Mindy Quigley) Cozy Case Files Volume 8 (With: Diane Kelly,Vivien Chien,Paige Shelton,SusanCox,Elizabeth Penney,Mindy Quigley)Beaton's deft plotting, shrewd characterizations, and loving depictions of the Scottish Highlands. . . The plot builds and twists nicely . . . Raise a glass of Hamish's favored Famous Grouse to this new addition in a worthy series."-- Booklist
