DANSAND® NO GROW™ Joint Filling Sand has been developed to prevent weeds, but it is not a weed killer. The product consists of washed and oven-dried silica sand, to which we have added a natural mineral. The mineral increases the pH-value and the ZAR value of the silica sand, creating an “unfriendly” environment that does not provide nourishment for weed plants. For the material to work properly, the joint must be made correctly. A properly executed joint is at least 3 mm wide , well-compressed and completely filled to the edge or bevel of the stone. To avoid weeds and displacements in the paving, the joint must always be filled to the full height of the joint edge and be completely free of soil and other organic material. The paving is cleaned with a stiff broom and the joints are refilled as needed. Moss and algae can be removed by suitable means. Use neutral joint filling sand here, as otherwise there is a risk of efflorescence or peeling The content of the bag should be mixed before sweeping the material into the joints otherwise the binders will not be mixed with the silica sand. Maybe some of your joints have hardened and some of them have not? If so, the binders have probably not been mixed with the silica sand.
Although Dansand No Grow is more expensive up front than your average dry jointing sand, the long-lasting benefit of its hardened seal offers good value for money.DANSAND® filling sand is not a remedy for weeds. To prevent existing weeds from growing, all weeds – including weed roots – must be removed before refilling the joints. Clean the joint to a depth corresponding to the entire height of the stone.
