About this deal

We all experience anxiety at some point in our lives. Different events can triggers reactions we hadn’t expected. Seven years ago I was having my own battle with my health causing much stress and anxiety and I decided to print out positive quotes and affix them in a notebook. I also wrote down words of wisdom from friends and loved ones. I took this book with me to all my medical appointments and feel like it helped during a difficult period. All these years later and I still suffer with bouts of anxiety. It has been proven that writing down your thoughts, feelings and concerns can help and to have a journal like Meera Lee Patel’s ‘Create Your Own Calm’ is the perfect aid to taking the first steps to taking control of your anxiety.

The first Keep Calm poster design was issued during World War II—in 1939, more precisely. It was part of a three poster series. I found the activities so helpful and actually found that I was able to notice the triggers within myself, and this book actually helped me more than I thought it would. It was nice to pinpoint some of my behaviours and feelings, and this then helped me to develop new learning behaviours, I am actually attending counselling sessions for anxiety and other reasons, and that alongside with this book I feel are an important tool for me and so helpful for my progress to learning to live with my myself, especially during this pandemic You don’t need a lot of space, just some soil and an area you can call your own – perhaps a window box, tub container or a corner of your garden. Top tip: Some of our Goodto Facebook followers tell us that adding a squirt of baby oil or liquid soap to your jar can give a slower-moving 'galaxy' effect - give it a try and let us know how you get on!

I love it. I'm thoroughly enjoying working through it at a steady pace. Finding my centre and finding time for me. I'm feeling anxiety slip away. I'm seeing the gifts and positives that 2020 has given me - even though it has been utterly rubbish! Choose three things you wish you could change about your life. What is the light and dark of each one?

For me personally this is the first self-help book I have ever read, and I really enjoyed doing the activities, especially those that require self-discovery and soe of these activities are really thought provoking, as I could list numerous ways that I was hard on myself, but then when asked to self-evaluate and think of ways to control these negative thoughts, it was really difficult but also so enlightening. This is such a fun kids gardening activity – and a perfect way to promote calm thoughts and mindfulness by engaging with nature. These sensational sand play ideas are perfect for toddlers, pre-schoolers and big kids to get to grips with! You may even want to create the kit with your children. My youngest son and I created our kit together. It was very helpful to hear his input on what he thought would work, and what wouldn’t. Letting him be involved also really got his buy-in on using the kit of his own free-will. They also make a great craft activity and are simple to make. The best bit is that the overall purpose of a sensory bottle is entirely open to your child to determine. They can explore textures, colours and contents by shaking, rolling and up-ending the bottle. Or, alternatively, use it to calm down and as a meditation tool. How cool is that?!
