About this deal

The PSM 18 makes up part of Bosch’s trusted “green” line of DIY level tools. And as the best palm sanders go, this one is a joy to use. The rubberised grip is comfortable and helps to cut down on nasty vibrations. The charge indicator on the front is great for keeping tabs on how much juice you have left too. The next step in the price analysis was to look at the average price you would typically expect to pay for Garden Power Tools and as Currys PC World was selected for this review we’ve used them for gathering our information on the average price of Garden Power Tools. The Bosch PSM 100 A is probably the best detail sander for furniture restoration because it’s light, comfortable to use and comes in a sturdy Bosch blow moulded case.

Once you’ve decided which type of sander you need, there are a few things to look out for before making your final choice. If there is power available then a corded sander makes life simpler in many ways as you don’t need to worry about charging batteries or replacing them when they are old. You just need to deal with a cable potentially getting in the way. How much do I need to spend?

Detail sanders: In many ways, a detail sander is a type of finishing sander. Typically, they have a triangular shape with curved sides, and this makes them less suitable for larger areas. They are, however, ideal for precise tasks like edges or harder to reach places. As mentioned above, there are typically four kinds of sander. Some are more versatile and can be used for multiple jobs, while others are more specialist. Below is a short summary of the main types and how they differ from each other. The entire footpad can be replaced as well. The foam upper is attached with the same hook and loop system as the pads, so you can keep this little sander in service for a long time. Bosch throw in three quality pads- 80, 120 and 160 grit sanding sheets to get you started. Consider the brand. We’ll go into more detail in a moment about brand and whether Bosch is your best option for Garden Power Tools. But the point here is just to make sure you’re factoring in brand when considering the quality of a product. Some brands will be better known for quality than others, and no doubt some of the much higher quality brands will attract a higher price for their products. Finishing sander: A finishing sander, as you might expect, is the one you need to put the finishing touches on a job. They come in different shapes and sizes which means you will sometimes see them described as palm sanders, and are ideal for working on flat areas before adding products like oil, wax and paint.

As is typical for this type of sander, the BO4556 is compact and lightweight with single-speed operation. It’s easy to use thanks to its toggle switch and soft non-slip elastomer grip, and even has an effective dust bag which isn’t a given for affordable finishing sanders. What’s more, you can make use of regular sheets of sanding paper via the simple clamp system.

Try to keep a firm, even pressure on the sanding pad to avoid creating ridges, and get the most out of each sweep of your hand. We used the sanders on a range of different types of wood, including some with large surface areas, and others with hard-to-reach sections. We also used them with different sandpaper grades to evaluate how each one performs. All of the sanders were used for long enough to be able to assess their ergonomics, including weight and dimensions. Bosch offers a comfortable contoured shape with a soft grip and an easy-to-use toggle switch. The dust box is small but you can optionally attach the PSM 100 A to a vacuum cleaner for even less dirt. The triangular pointed shape of the sanding plate means you can get into corners and the plate can be rotated to extend its lifespan. Unlike many detail sanders, there’s a second section to the sanding plate for when more surface area is needed.

The overall quality of any product is important, but it’s especially important when you’re considering Garden Power Tools. You’re making an important investment in this product so you want to be sure that it’s going to be durable and serve its purpose for a decent length of time. The design of this sander has been perfected over the years, and you can really tell. The shape fits the hand nicely, and there are several rubberised patches that fit your thumb and fingers to maximise grip and manoeuvrability. And even though it’s small, the sanding pad is an impressive 140 mm ² . Weight – It is obvious that the heavier your tool the more effort is required for its Heavy tools are difficult to maneuver too. If the specifications of tools you have selected are almost the same, it is always better to choose one that is lighter for ease of work. Consider the price. We’ll dive into a lot more detail on the price of BOSCH PSM 100 A Multi-pad Sander shortly, but in terms of quality, the obvious advice here is ‘you get what you pay for’. It’s really just being aware that if you’re buying the cheapest of the Garden Power Tools from Currys PC World you might not expect the same level of quality as you’d get from a decent quality product like BOSCH PSM 100 A Multi-pad Sander. Random orbital sander: If you can only afford one sander, a random orbital is the most versatile. They are typically circular, but not exclusively, and although it might look like they simply rotate the sanding disc, they actually move it around in an unpredictable pattern to avoid scratch marks. Their size and ease-of-use make them suitable for a wide range of sanding tasks.

Sanding creates a lot of dust so it’s a good idea to look for a sander with good dust collection as not all sanders come with this feature. Typically it will come in the form of a built-in dust compartment but some can even be attached to a vacuum cleaner tube for better extraction. As with any power tool, practice makes perfect, but there are a few techniques I use to get the most out of my detail sanders: Of the 167 products in the Garden Power Tools category, 149 were more expensive than BOSCH PSM 100 A Multi-pad Sander and 15 were cheaper. Prices from Bosch Power– The power of the motor of this mechanized tool also is an important factor. Difficult projects with longer working hours require more powerful motors whereas as if you’re are more of a hobbyist working for perfection in each of DIY projects then go in for the ones that have more control. A mouse sander would be a perfect choice in the case.
