In an effort to find a way out of the bakery, Ari places an ad looking for a replacement. He finds Hector, a young man in town recovering after the death of his grandmother, who loves baking more than anything else. As Hector breathes new life into the bakery, he and Ari begin to develop a friendship, the intensity of which surprises both of them. This relationship could be the start of something special—if only Ari's impulsive behavior doesn't ruin everything.

Ari not knowing what he wanted to do in life. I think that this uncertainty is almost universal in teens and I appreciated its portrayal. that being said, this was the only thing I liked about Ari’s character. Terwijl Ari en Hector veel plezier aan het maken zijn gebeurd er in de bakkerij een ongelukje. In eerste instantie lijkt het iets onschuldigs, maar algauw blijkt dat het grote gevolgen heeft. De familie ervaart veel stress en zijn bang hun lieftallige bakkerij te verliezen. Hierdoor weten Ari en Hector niet meer hoe ze met elkaar om moeten gaan, wat ervoor zorgt dat ze elkaar een tijdje niet zien. Wat hier gebeurd is? Dat moet je zelf maar ontdekken.A tender blend of sugary, buttery, and other complex flavors that’s baked with a tremendous dash of heart. It’s been over a year since the end of the first book and Ari is still working at his family’s bakery while Hector has moved away to finish up culinary school. Literally the only reason I can see for Hector "loving" or "caring about" Ari is because he thinks that Ari is handsome or has a good body. That's it. Full-stop. There's literally NOTHING attractive about Ari's sniveling personality. He has no work ethic. He has no drive. He hangs around shitty people who say shitty things and doesn't stand up for himself or others. He's passive-aggressive. He's whiny. He's pouty. He's like a child - and not a happy child! A depressed, needy child prone to crying jags. Bloem is, op de blauw gekleurde cover na, volledig in zwart-wit uitgevoerd. Toch is de illustrator erin geslaagd om de tekeningen, zowel met, als zonder tekst, van de bladzijden af te laten knallen. Behalve dat ze er echt uitspringen, is vaak ook met één oogopslag al duidelijk wat er wordt bedoeld. De verhaallijn sluit naadloos aan op het eerste deel, waardoor je gelijk weer helemaal in het verhaal zit. Er zit echt passie van Kevin en Savanna in het verhaal en de tekeningen, waardoor het verhaal enorm goed tot zijn recht komt.

De manier waarop het verhaal wordt verteld is ook op een duidelijke en vlotte manier, in het begin moest ik er wel weer even inkomen, maar naar een paar bladzijden zat ik weer helemaal in het verhaal. Ook vind ik dat dit deel meer diepgang heeft dan het eerste deel omdat de liefde in dit verhaal opbloeit en er een aantal moeilijke beslissingen moeten worden genomen waardoor het verhaal me net iets meer pakte dan het bij het eerste deel het geval was. In dit tweede en tevens slotdeel van deze graphic novel gaan we direct verder met het verhaal waar het vorige boek geëindigd was.

Hector werkt bij de ouders van Ari en Ari in de bakkerij. De twee zijn inmiddels goede vrienden geworden. Maar er lijkt meer op te bloeien tussen de twee. Durven ze hun vriendschap naar een hoger niveau te tillen en elkaar hun ware gevoelens te tonen? Dan gebeurt er een ongeluk in de bakkerij en weten zowel Ari als Hector niet meer hoe dat het nu nog verder moet. Er ontstaat een breuk. Zal dit nog goed komen? All throughout, Ganucheau’s artwork serves the immersive feeling by wielding small details, nailing small scenes. Something as minor as a panel of a character hitting the spacebar to restart Gilmore Girls on a laptop after a tough late night chat is wonderful. There is an especially visual scene in the first half of the book that gave me chills of familiarity: Ari, covered in blues, is unable to sleep. He sends forlorn texts to his friends and is met with silence, before reaching out to Hector and getting a goosebump-inducing response. It was simple and innocent and, I believe, something most (if not all) readers can absolutely relate to in 2019. Read this! You won’t regret it! It made me laugh, it brought tears to my eyes, it made me happy— it made me feel just a whole wide range of emotions & the cherry on top was being in love with all the ADORABLE BAKING ART! Reminder! rant is in no way in regards to the book itself; my God I couldn’t love this gem of a graphic novel more!🤔 eh wait maybe I could if there were more Ari & Hector adorbz kissing scenes! 😉 anyway, its just regarding an ass of a character who was meant to be an ass of a character so no worries 😉 )

Ari's family owns a bakery that has fallen on hard times. They're struggling to make ends meet, hoping they won't have to close. Even though Ari loved baking with his father as a child, the last thing he wants to do now is spend his days slaving over hot ovens. He isn't quite sure what he wants to do now that high school is over, although he and his friends are talking about trying to make it with their band. But his parents need him to help them—for as long as it takes.I'm all for the idea of this plot - baker's son wants to break away from a future of spending his whole life working in his dad's bakery, falls in love with a new-man-in-town who is a strong, responsible, hard-working, good person - but it falls apart because the baker's son is weak, pathetic and insufferable. Je gebruikte me om te krijgen wat je wilde, wat dat dan ook was, en daarna …. daarna vergat je me gewoon.” Kevin Panetta (auteur) en Savanna Ganucheau (illustrator) Veel van het verhaal speelt zich af in de bakkerij. In dit deel zie je de jongens daadwerkelijk aan het werk waardoor je al het lekkers ook voorbij ziet komen. Zelfs als niet-bak-liefhebber begint het te kriebelen om zelf koekjes te gaan bakken. De setting is vermakelijk en aanstekelijk en het geheel voelt hartverwarmend aan.

THE TIME JUMPS. these random leaps made the story feel incredibly disjointed and as if entire parts of the story were missing. I was honestly worried that my e-copy of Bloom was malfunctioning and it took me a while to figure out that... those gaps were intentional?? El dibujo es muy bonito, y hay momentos muy tiernos entre Ari y Héctor, pero es que el resto sin más. Als de bakkerij vervolgens wordt getroffen door een tragedie, raken de jongens van elkaar verwijderd en is het nog maar de vraag of er een weg terug is. Gr 8 Up—Aristotle Kyrkos has graduated from high school and desperately wants to move to Baltimore with his friends to make it in the music industry. His father, owner of their family-run bakery, is less than understanding of Ari's "anywhere but here" mentality, so, with the summer tourist season coming up, Ari hires a replacement. Enter Hector Galea. On sabbatical from culinary school, he's in town to organize his late grandmother's estate and figure out where his life is going. His skills boost the family's struggling business, and Ari realizes the reason he's spending so much time in the bakery has nothing to do with the delicious cupcakes and baguettes. With Baltimore starting to feel like a distant dream, Ari must make a decision about his future. Beautiful artwork depicts characters coping with life's increasing responsibilities and is especially sumptuous when focusing on the yummy desserts. This is both a delicious foray into the world of baking and young love and an endearing, realistic tale of two teens helping one another grow. VERDICT A fresh take on the coming-of-age story that spotlights the triumphs and travails of young people. Terwijl de jongens druk in de bakkerij zijn komen ze erachter dat ze wellicht meer gemeen hebben en beginnen er zich gevoelens te ontwikkelen. Maar wanneer er dan een ongelukje gebeurt in de bakkerij, weten beide jongens niet hoe ze zich moeten gedragen. Hierdoor vormt er zich een breuk tussen hen, maar zal deze nog te lijmen zijn? Bloem 2 is het slot van een mooie graphic novel duologie over familie, vriendschap en liefde. Maar ook over verantwoordelijkheden, over het vinden wat je wil en over het ontdekken wie je bent. De woorden van Kevin Panetta en de illustraties van Savanna Ganucheau schetsen een fijn beeld van twee jonge mensen die elkaar vinden tijdens het bakken. Dit tweede deel van de Bloem serie krijgt 4 sterren van mij. Ari is druk bezig met het inwerken van Hector in de bakkerij. Stiekem vindt hij dit veel gezelliger dan hij in eerste instantie had verwacht en Hector vindt zijn nieuwe baan tof. Daarbij is hij ook enorm goed in bakken en weet hij al snel lekkerdere hapjes te maken.
