About this deal

Beautiful Oops! by Barney Saltzberg is an inspiring book and easy to read over and over again. The whole book feels like a celebration of playing creatively and without fear. A wonderful bi-product of taking the sting out of an oops, is a bitof a life lesson — anything can be fixed if you don’t give up. It’s also a good reminder to play! (Something we forget about doing in this busy life of ours!)

Barney Saltzberg's concept book Beautiful Oops is truly engaging for students. Here, a blob of paint with a few strokes becomes a frog, and a balled up piece of garbage becomes the fleece of a lamb! Collaborate with an art teacher when reading this book aloud. After reading it, have the art teacher demonstrate how she can turn an artwork "mistake" into something beautiful. Perhaps give the students discarded items (candy wrappers, old magazines, broken toys) to use to create found art! This is a great video of the author, Barney Saltzberg, with a Kindergarten class. It is worth watching to see how Beautiful Oops! allows children to play creatively and you will be singing “Shopping With My Dog” for the rest of the day! This “Beautiful Oops” activity is a preschool book craft focusing on fine motor skills with a concentration on awareness of differences, making mistakes, and not focusing on specific details, using a creative book activity based on the book, Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzberg. If you are looking for hands-on book related activities, this one is a big hit! Beautiful Oops Activity

Customer reviews

Sometimes striving for perfection gets in the way of actually getting anything done. Many children ( and adults) go through stages where they don’t want to do anything for fear of making a mistake. Beautiful Oops! by Barney Saltzberg allows you to see the world differently. Why should a mistake be terrible? Mistakes are part of life. Mistakes have to be made. Mistakes should be made. There is beauty in your Oops!

Put on some fun music and have the person move their arms around on the paper as if they are dancing to the music. The bent corner of a piece of paper isn’t something to throw away. It’s something to celebrate and Saltzberg has crafted his into a waddling penguin. The message in the book is that you can look at a mistake as an opportunity to create something new, something better, something beautiful. It is even good to make mistakes, that mistakes are worth making and there is no need to be afraid. Guest post written by author and illustrator, Barney Saltzberg whose newest book is Beautiful Oops.
