About this deal

I have enjoyed reading the DCI Lorimer series. This is the sixth in the series but can be appreciated without having read the previous novels. Gray did a good job of holding my interest by including two cases Lorimer is working on. One is a child abduction while the other is a missing person, soon found to be a victim of murder. The two cases were distinct and did not confuse the plot. A group of us are all reading this at the moment as part of our newly formed and made up book club and honestly we couldn't have chosen a better book to start with... this is serious belly laugh, snort out loud material... we can't put it down!!! EVERY GIRL NEEDS TO READ THIS!!!' He is ever present in the book, but not in a romantic sense until almost the very end and you cannot help but be engrossed and feel like it is your best friend at the same time.

The whole thing has completely taken me in a new direction. This time last year, writing the book, I took out a loan to pay for Christmas presents. Now, I’ve bought a new car, paid off all my debts and bought a new house. It’s been life changing. In his 2013 book Glasgow: The Real Mean City: True Crime and Punishment in the Second City of The Empire, Malcolm Archibald notes how a particular Glasgow regiment sharpened the rim of their steel helmets and used it as a weapon in hand-to-hand combat. But when Dr Tom Adams, aka Sugar Daddy, shows interest, it’s a game-changing moment. Zara has had a crush on Tom since her very first day at the aesthetics clinic she works at part-time. As things heat up between them, Zara can’t help but wonder: is this it? Or is it another disaster waiting to happen? Sophie added: “The launch party promises to be fun and of course, what happens at the party, stays at the party!” Read More Related Articles Meet Zara Smith: 29, single and muddling her way through life as a trainee nurse in Glasgow. From online dating to blind dates, hometown hook-ups to flirty bartenders, nothing is off limits. This is a good police procedure novel that has much character emphasis. There is essentially no suspense. I recommend this novel to those who would enjoy a novel of methodical investigation taking place in Scotland.

Readers can meet Sophie and ask her anything they want to know about Zara and her antics in an upcoming Q&A, hosted by Coatbridge-raised book club host, Heather Suttie, on Sunday, August 21, from 1pm-4.30pm at The Corinthian in Glasgow. Some might consider that it was a term popularised across the nation thanks to a certain string-vested Glaswegian street philosopher called Rab C Nesbitt in the late 80s and early 90s. When Sophie Gravia started anonymously blogging about encounters with male suitors in 2018, she never thought it would lead to her becoming a published author. With two plots running simultaneously through the book, with a minor third also appearing from time to time, a reader would perhaps get lost. That is not the case with Gray’s management of her plot line. I was at a loss at times to understand the need for the second and especially the third. Yet I wasn’t writing the book and left that to Alex Gray’s discretion.

I was getting bored reading the same old romantic story lines. This book is real, it's hilarious, and it's the perfect follow on from A Glasgow Kiss !' The healthcare worker turned novelist after blogging about her often bizarre dating experiences for 18 months. Maybe I was expecting a different style of book .. more of a love story with a strong female lead who had made some mistakes but who had turned her life around. This wasn’t that …

There’s a message from the author at the front of the book. It says simply: “This book is for any girl who has ever wondered why she isn’t enough. I can honestly say that all the responses from men, including from some former internet dates, have been very positive. They all got the humour. This book is sort of a sequel to "A Glasgow Kiss" by Sophie Gravia but it isn't necesaary to read it. The plotline is pretty easy to follow. There isn't even any real mystery to the story as we know the main suspects, Kyle and Eric, can't be guilty of the murders as the killer is someone Julie didn't know, and the perpetrator is just some random guy who comes into the story near the end when the time comes to wrap things up. Something i really couldn't believe about the novel was that since Eric wasn't guilty of the murders he was presumed not guilty of the rape either, even though that was a totally separate case that came along first! Why??? I mean, true that his guilt or innocence could never have been proved after Julie died, but why exonerate him completely? I felt that this, along with every other issue raised in the novel was handled in a cold, callous manner, perhaps in the imperosnal way to be expected from a murder mystery, but what gets me is that this book thinks it is humanising its characters and treating them with respect.

It may well be that the term started becoming used more and more around that time, not just via Rab C but by virtue of the fact that the BBC had another show on TV not long after he hung up his vest which was also set in Glasgow - believe it or not called 'Glasgow Kiss'.
