About this deal

The influence of Disco was pervasive across many genres during the 1980s – but Disco itself was far from over.

O.S Band and Nu Shooz are also featured alongside freestyle Hip-Hop and Pop infused beats from Whistle and Lisa Lisa And Cult Jam With Full Force. On this collection we are celebrating ‘ELECTRO’ – a sub-genre of Electronic Dance music that combined elements of Disco, Funk and Hip-Hop and featuring a heavy synth backing, and the commercial Electro-Pop hits it produced.Disc Two pays tribute to the 80s dancefloor classics that fused genres to create breath-taking originality and new styles - often reflecting changes in new technology and capturing the fashion of the era. The first volume, across 30 tracks on 2-LPs, pressed on 1 Green and 1 Blue vinyl, presents the best in HI-NRG and POP. Two of the most influential Hip-Hop tracks ever follow with ‘White Lines (Don’t Do It)’ and ‘Hey DJ’, leading into the massive Electro charged chart and club hits from Chaka Khan, Shannon, Jellybean, and Exposé. It evolved throughout the decade, often in conjunction with other genres, in particular Electronic Dance Music.

Our third disc starts in high gear with the defining remix of ‘Lost In Music’ by Sister Sledge - re-visioned for the 1984 dancefloor five years after they produced the original version by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic. produced a timeless hit with ‘Funkytown’, and Shalamar with ‘A Night To Remember’, Odyssey with ‘Use It Up And Wear It Out’ and Indeep’s ‘Last Night A DJ Saved My Life’ were all huge commercial Disco hits. Taking influences from both genres, Expose and Company B enjoyed ‘freestyle’ hits and DJ, remixer and producer Jellybean had a string of hits including ‘Just A Mirage’, and Whitney Houston became a global superstar. The first volume (HI-NRG and Pop) was issued earlier this month, while this new selection features 29 tracks pressed on purple and pink vinyl, including songs from Carly Simon, Irene Cara, Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Nu Shooz, The SOS Band, Malcolm McLaren and many more. This volume, featuring 29 tracks across 2-LPs, pressed on 1 Purple and 1 Pink vinyl, presents the best in DISCO and ELECTRO.

Following the height of its’ popularity in the late 1970s, Disco in the early 1980s retained the irresistible melodies and beat but became primarily synth driven. These are vinyl-only compilations which will represent key genres from the dance scene of the 1980s. High Tempo Dance and Hi-NRG found mainstream success in the mid-80s with floor-fillers from Evelyn Thomas, Miquel Brown, Man 2 Man, Boys Town Gang and Patrick Cowley feat. S. club tracks through his Record Shack label, and Jimmy Somerville enjoyed massive chart success as part of Bronski Beat, who with Marc Almond covered ‘I Feel Love’, the 1977 Donna Summer classic, often cited as the influence and basis for ‘Hi-NRG’, and as the lead singer of The Communards, who had the best-selling single in 1986 with their energised cover of the Disco standard ‘Don’t Leave Me This Way’.
