About this deal

Although as a white Australian, I'm not the best judge of this, to me at least it felt like this was a great aspect of the book. Those outside of America may find references go over their head but don't lose anything of the plot if so. At times the book strays off the path of the fantasy novel, and feels a little like a PBS or history channel special. I read this book as an audiobook from the library, but I also have an ARC from the publisher (full disclosure), which didn't affect my review in any way. It feels as though the author doesn't trust the readers to build the necessary connections to understand the intent or purpose of the story.

The Manifestor Prophecy is a tantalizing first installment in what is sure to be a blockbuster series, and a remarkable achievement for a master author in a thrilling new arena. There’s nothing (absolutely nothing) that I could critique about this book as it was just a delight from start to finish. Sneaking out on her birthday to meet her and best (Unremarkable) friend JP's author hero at a book signing, Nic is about to learn some shocking news about her family, her heritage and about herself. Those readers will inhale Nic Blake and the Remarkables--and then begin counting down the days to its sequel. The word rougarou sounds very much like the French loup-garou, but whether that is a coincidence, and if it isn't, what the connection between the two of them is. Interesting story, with a bit of an unexpected twist near the end that I'm excited to see what they do with next! It was hard to follow, and I think younger readers could struggle with this as well (more so, since they aren't as experienced with reading/storytelling).

Character development will encourage questions from middle-grade readers and will be a topic of discussion.I had so much fun with this book and I’ve found myself once again utterly in awe of Angie Thomas’s talent.

Thomas ( Concrete Rose ) brings her trademark voice to an action-packed series kickoff rooted in a mixture of African diasporic myth, biblical references, and U. One of the best things I liked about this book as well is that I could tell Angie Thomas had a lot of fun writing this book, you could really feel it in the pages and with every new magical mishap that happens to our group of friends.I wouldn't read a horror novel and give it a low rating because it was 'too scary', and similarly I don't judge MG/YA for feeling 'immature'. I liked how the representation of this book is just 👏🏻✨👏🏻 Props to Angie Thomas for never forgetting about the BLM movement and its written in the story really well.

The book celebrates African American culture, history, and heritage while exploring complex themes and interpersonal relationships in an approachable manner. Despite reading this book for the first time, it still gave me strong nostalgia vibes of being back in an adventure book, as with all those of my childhood. And the story-within-a-story also worked very well and could be useful to the characters in forthcoming books. As a white, UK-based reader, I liked both the fantasy plot and the weaving into it of important topics. But before she has a chance to convince him to teach her the gift, a series of shocking revelations and terrifying events launch Nic and two friends on a hunt for a powerful magic tool she’s never heard of .Angie Thomas has certainly hit the ground running with a brilliantly relatable set of protagonists that many young readers will get a lot out of, in this book, and I hope in the sequels to follow! But before she has a chance to convince him to teach her the gift, a series of shocking revelations and terrifying events launch Nic and two friends on a hunt for a powerful magic tool she’s never heard of. It can be challenging to satiate the appetites of readers who devour beloved middle grade fantasy series. The Manifestor Prophecy is a remarkable (pun intended), superbly written book with a wonderfully nuanced, diverse, and developed cast of characters.
