There were moments that I felt could have been expanded on and really fleshed out as they felt rather glazed over but I suppose the main audience for this book wants something to the point.

Even though "everyone" advised him about his destiny/his fate, he didn't listened and now he is trapped in this horrible land with a worst roller as a villain. Disney's New York Times best-selling Villains series comes to life in this graphic novel adaptation of the book that started it all in this tragic tale of love and loss, the untold story of Snow White's Wicked Queen. His arc was incredibly crafted and from all the Pan and Hook retellings I read so far, this book definitely delivered my favorite interpretation and presentation of James.

That said, the Book of Fairy Tales provides an exciting umbrella to the Villains series and introduction to Never Never. But when her mother gives her the original Katrina van Tassel's diary on the two-hundredth anniversary of the Headless Horseman's haunting, a new legend begins to take shape, weaving together the past and the present in eerie ways. Funny how much sympathy can be drawn for these “villains”, excellent narration and wonderful tale of piracy! This is the 7th Hook-focused book I've read, the 6th origin story (I just like to establish what number I'm on each time I review another one lol). However, so far this series, even though it's still Disney and not that deep, kept on surprising me. We got to see more cursed objects, and how some of those objects came to be in other Villains possession! However, I thought these were all stand alone, each following a different Disney villain (hence why I started with the 9th book in the series), but it seems like they are all intertwined and centered around "the odd sisters", so I might have to start from the beginning instead of jumping around. In this book their role in everything was extremely nasty, especially because as a reader you already know how Hook's wish to find Neverland will end. Suddenly her unfortunate circumstances are transformed in ways at once astonishing and seemingly impossible. Jack shares all of his findings with the rest of Halloween Town, and together, they devise a plan to run Christmas themselves.
