The acting is superb, and if as one review states, the writing is like that of formulaic American sitcoms (which I hate) then at least it shows that it's the comedy that counts, and the BBC know how to make it funny. A minor recurring character from the 2006 Christmas special to series seven is Denis, the local Vicar. Their kids - Janie, entering that diabolical phase of late-teenage; Nick, full of unworkable plans and irritating good-humour; and Michael, at the manipulative, know-it-all age - don't mince their words either.
