About this deal

There are also two removable, folded versions of Christopher Tolkien’s iconic map of Middle-earth and another of Mordor. Also appearing are two full-size maps drawn by Christopher Tolkien revealing all the detail of Middle-earth. This one-volume hardback edition contains the complete text, fully corrected and reset, which is printed in red and black and features, for the very first time, thirty colour illustrations, maps and sketches drawn by Tolkien himself as he composed this epic work. Mary Shelley's darkly disturbing tale is illustrated by Angela Barrett and newly introduced by Richard Holmes.

The fact that both the back and front of the book show times where the Hobbits are happy still and aren’t in too much danger really helps cement the book as the start of the advenure. We wish we could see all 57 openers for ourselves, but we’ll have to content ourselves with imaging the magic for now. Echoes of Truth: Christianity in The Lord of the Rings explores the Gospel, Christian themes, and Biblical archetypes in J. But this gorgeous new volume gambles correctly on the sheer visceral pleasure of seeing “Illustrated by the author” on the title page. First up I wanted to talk about the actual box of the box of The Lord of the Rings Illustrated Edition.

The front shows a very busy image of the battle which includes a lot of the Rohirrim, but I can’t pick out any of our main characters. The box is this thick sturdy cardboard material which houses each of the books neatly (but not too tightly). I like this in comparison to the front of The Hobbit as it’s almost a close to the start from the Shire. His images – a total of seven full-page images and 57 head-pieces – are based on original designs by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark. The printing of the text is inconsistent, fine on most pages but over-inked on some, which doesn't look great but is at least still readable.

Lee’s original illustrations have been reproduced to the artist’s exacting standards, in a scale and quality never seen before, and have been augmented by several entirely new images, including enchanting endpapers depicting the One Ring long before it came into Frodo’s possession, three frontispieces, two revised versions of existing illustrations, a new image titled ‘The Grey Havens’ and an exclusive giclée print. The color is fantastic, the lettering is clear and crisp, the binding looks incredibly professional. I will be reading this edition when I do my annual reread of The Lord of the Rings in December, though I have a feeling I will not allow myself to have my usual cup of tea at my elbow when I have this particular book in hand. The majestic scale of the landscapes and the atmosphere he captures on the page – all in exquisite watercolour and pencil – make him the only choice to illustrate this, the ultimate edition of The Lord of the Rings. It’s impossible – and unreadable and unwatchable, to be honest – to fit in everything in every single book or a movie or a tv series. Please note, leather is a natural materials which will have natural variations in coloring and texture. I did suggest this one to HarperCollins, but I think they would have released this anyway to fit in with the TV series.

There's a tonne of extras including some maps of Middle Earth and Mordor, a fantastic "Kings Letter" from the rejected epilogue for the book and some pages from the Book of Mazarbul. There’s next to no colour on these covers except a green hue around Shelob and a red light in the tower of Cirith Ungol. If a book reaches a wider audience, there will always be those who love it and those who absolutely hate it. There exist different families, different work teams, and versatile environments in any aspect of our lives. printing of this ALAN LEE ILLUSTRATED Edition ) ---hardcover, a Near Fine/Fine example in a Near Fine/Fine dustjacket, a wee bit of light rubbing, jacket is now in a hi-quality mylar protector, Alan Lee illustrations and cover art, a very nice copy that looks new, , any image directly beside this listing is the actual book and not a generic photo. The little guy (with their friends) go on a lengthy journey to rid Middle Earth of this evil by tossing this one ring into the fiery hell it was forged in.The book contains the map that Thorin has for the mountain’s hidden doorway in the front, and then a map of Mirkwood in the back.
