I loved how distinct each art style was, with some having more of a sketchy look and feel while others felt extremely reminiscent of the aesthetic from the show. Michael Dante DiMartino is an American animation director best known as the cocreator, executive producer, and story editor of the animated TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra , both on Nickelodeon. DiMartino wrote, animated, and directed the short animated film Atomic Love which screened at the 2003 Sundance and Los Angeles Film Festivals. Patterns of Time had a nice balance of stories focused on the extended cast – from a Jinora-centered story where she spends time with Asami and Korra to a surprisingly wholesome comic that follows Bumi and Meelo.Friends for Life" - As a child living in the Southern Water Tribe, Korra finds a polar bear dog cub which has become separated from its pack in a storm. This anthology was just so wholesome and everything I needed to bridge the gap to more avatar content. A really cute volume with a lot of short stories about different characters from the world of Avatar and Legend of Korra. All of these showcase very different characters: How Korra met Naga, how Meelo learned to help others. It's more like the "The Lost Adventures" and "Team Avatar Tales" from AtLA - short (or very short) and largely inconsequential comics. He continues to consult on the ongoing Dark Horse graphic novels that continue the story of Avatar, and is writing the upcoming Legend of Korra graphic novel. Some are closer to present day or set after the show like several featuring all the various airbender kids. The standout element in this anthology is that it wasn’t entirely focused around one or two characters.It took a year to release this book, and unfortunately it's the first in the series to make me disappointed. In a similar vein to the writing, several different creators worked on the art and coloring which gave each comic its own unique look. Jinora, Asami, and Korra are having a bit of a run-in with some puffball spirits, and the art and color palette runs very soft and warm. The art was generally really, really good and while there wasn't much Korrasami in it, what was there was cute. It is always fun to come back to this rich world full of fascinating details, and I won't tire of it in the nearer future.

For a book that literally says “Join Korra, Asami, Mako, Bolin [and] Tenzin” on the back it sure has zero Mako and Bolin, almost no Asami, and two entire stories focused on Meelo. However, as always with anything from official sources: my kingdom for more Asami content, the scene with her mom was lovely but so so short!
