For me I was only able to have a horse when I could pay for it myself so, knowing I had to have a decent job to pay the livery, and basic care costs; I knuckled down at college but didn’t go to University. Would a 14-year-old girl really prepare to prostitute herself for back rent without even trying to ask for help? Sarah's grandfather has been a masterful rider in his own day and he passed his love of horses on to Sarah. When I came to take a quick peek I saw a four star review by GR friend Jonetta, and that was good enough for me. She made the words leap from the pages, creating vivid images of setting, the quirky folks in Henri and Sarah’s world and, of course Boo. Mac was a photographer and worked with many young beautiful models, all of whom found Mac charming and attractive.

Her characters are always well realised and whilst some of the incidences in the book stretch belief a little, that, in my opinion, is what fiction is all about. I could relate to it totally, the sacrifices made to be able to have a horse, the rewards and partnership you can have when you get it right.

It’s a story of a 14 year old girl (Sarah) whose grandfather (Henri) was in the highly acclaimed ‘Cadre Noir’ French classical riding academy. The Horse Dancer tells the story of Sarah, a fourteen year old girl with a passion for horse riding which stems from her grandfather, Henri Lachapelle, a former pupil at Le Cadre Noir, a prestigious academy for horsemanship in Saumur, France. But what is true is that Jojo Moyes’ books continue to entertain and to date, I have never read a bad one. With each perceived “failure,” Natasha judges herself harshly, and projects that judgment onto others, letting those negative perceptions color her relationships. My story isn’t the same as Mecca or Sarah, but many of my weekends were spent helping out at my local riding school.

I also really loved the parts about the Cadre Noir, of which I was vaguely familiar with before but now I have really read up about them. Publication information is for the USA, and (unless stated otherwise) represents the first print edition.A quintessential Jojo Moyes novel about a lost girl and her horse, the enduring strength of friendship, and how even the smallest choices can change everything.

If you don’t like horses, you may find the relationship between Sarah and Boo difficult to fathom but she completely loves that horse and is her anchor when everything else is falling apart. At first I was not sure there really was such a thing as Le Cadre Noir, but sure enough there is, and I was surprised that I had never heard of it before reading this book. At one point Sarah says “You know like I do that sometimes telling the truth makes things worse, not better” (p.One of the things that worked about this story is how you didn’t need to have background information to appreciate the world, conflicts and issues. They are in the process of getting a divorce and are attempting to sort out their house and other financial issues when their paths cross with Sarah. Yet when the willful fourteen-year-old Sarah lands in her path, Natasha decides to take the girl under her wing.
