About this deal

David Goggins continues to push the upper limit of what was before seemingly impossible and use his experience to inspire.

I 100% agree with the opinion of pushing yourself to the utmost limits to achieve truly great things, but from what he states throughout his book is he seems to push too far and too hard and thus resulting in significant injuries/burnout. And look, I'm not here to armchair psychologize the guy, but it doesn't take a PhD in psych to see this man has some seriously fucked up coping mechanisms. The stories and lessons in this raw, revealing, unflinching memoir offer the reader a blueprint they can use to climb from the bottom of the barrel into a whole new stratosphere that once seemed unattainable. He argues that we all have the potential to achieve great things, but we need to first unshackle our minds and win the war within. After that, giving up often feels like the sanest option, and maybe it is, but know that quitting chips away at your self-worth and always requires some level of mental rehab.

He’s a man who came from a humble and troubled childhood and, through the force of sheer will, forged himself into one of the hardest motherf--kers that’s ever lived. Which world class athletes are pushing to the utmost limit for an event and then ending up having to fight to recover for the next year+ just to run again?Whatever it takes for you to believe that you’re better than good enough to achieve your dreams is what you must do. Ter orgulho do seu trabalho e do processo diário, sempre focando na tarefa que está nas suas mãos, fazendo ela com o máximo da sua habilidade. Also, his "Mental Lab" is barely ever mentioned, and the "Evolutions", or challenges, are not very explained and/or applicable for people in different situations. It comes from working your way through layers of pain, fatigue, and reason, and ignoring the ever-present temptation to quit until you strike a source of fuel you didn't even know existed. Others keep believing and find a way out but hope to never slip into a trap like that ever again, and those skills they'd honed and developed whither.

If you don't start out scrubbing toilets or sweeping floors, you'll never really learn humility or appreciate later improvements in your situation. But I’d say he is solidified in the “Stay Hard” mentality that he portrays on social media and to the outside world and he will continue to push this narrative until his body is completely busted later on in life. By sharing his life experiences, he has given all of us a blueprint on not only how to pick ourselves up but also how to excel in the face of overwhelming adversity and "stay hard" in the process. Principles give us a foundation — solid ground we can trust and build on as we continue to redefine what's possible in our own lives.

If you like that you’ll probably like this book, personally I have no interest in Ultra Racing and while I appreciate the sport and the mindset needed, it got very old three hours in. Goggins delivers a motivating book for individuals willing to discover their life goals and become what they are fully capable of despite all of the traps and obstacles life throws at you. I instantly know this is a book I will read again, and again—and that is a truly rare thing to find. The interview with his mother is very enlightening to understand domestic abuse and how it is possible to escape to achieve greatness.

The pain and fear that most dread is what he aspires to get through daily to test his mental resilience. It's about becoming at peace with yourself by facing your demons and taking back control of your life. While I like the audio, I own copies of both books as they’re definitely ones worth referring back to. After all is said and done, he does in fact complete the race but after this needs surgery and ends up having a botched one at that, thus demolishing his knees for a significant timeframe after that. If you are looking for an inspiring and motivational book, I highly recommend reading Never Finished. If you fail to realise this, then these are opportunities wasted which could/should have been used to better yourself. I've admired Goggins for quite some time now and wanted this book to give me wisdom for overcoming adversity. But once exhaustion sets in, doubt and insecurity tend to penetrate and dissipate that flimsy brand of belief.
