About this deal

The chapters are very long and jump back and forth between various periods in the past and the present. Her story is clear and it invites the reader to fill in the blanks with the other character's experiences. Now, Alexandra has received the news that her mother – who she refused to speak to again in the years following her escape – has died in prison and left the house to her children.

Riddled with confusing and constantly changing timelines, it proves both disjointed and difficult to follow, even in spite of a chilling atmosphere and an enticing concept. She often has trouble gauging the passage of time, or loses time completely, a common experience of trauma survivors, and that uneasy grasp of time is reflected in the seesawing structure until its sudden catapulting of tension halfway through the narrative. Although we are never privy to her father’s thoughts and he is only ever viewed through the lens of Lex I felt like I really knew him.At a narrative level, however, this slender 84-minute drama nonetheless sags a little, occasionally feeling like a short film concept filled out with vivid texture alone. The abuse happened gradually, over years, to the point where, by the time it hit extreme levels, it was too late for Lex and her siblings to do anything. Then we have names such as Olivia and JP who are a mentioned frequently during the story but add nothing of any significance. Lex wants to use the money and the house for something good, but is unable to do so without the agreement of each of her siblings. It is dark, deceptive and an utterly delicious read which tells the story of Lex, a high-flying lawyer working in New York whose troubled childhood was spent in a remote house in England with her siblings and parents.

I didn’t like any of the characters except the policeman that adopted Lex and, slightly, Doctor Kay. There were a few things kept behind until revealed later on they mention 7 children but only name 6, I knew that what had happened to the 7th would come out eventually. Lex, a workaholic high flying over-achiever has built walls around her to cope with the horror of her past. The Australian novelist Jane Harper is known for her excellent outback noir novels, from The Dry to The Lost Man, in which the harsh, sun-baked expanses of the landscape play as much a part as her protagonists. North American rights went for seven figures, and more than 20 other territories have acquired the book, with screen rights going to Sony.

Girl A is an unflinching look at the long term effects of child abuse and it's an intense and well-written novel. Still, for all its darkness, there is tenderness, small moments of happiness between Lex and her adoptive father are welcome spots of light in these pages, but they do not “fix” her.

This book follows a very similar story arc, right down to the siblings on holiday in identical red tee shirts. its one of those novels that has genuinely talented writing and plotting so is worth a read for that reason - the rest is entirely in the eyes of the beholder. Skirting around what exactly happened in “the house of horrors” does disservice to abuse this brutal and inhumane—I don’t need gratuitous detail, but the facts and the physical and emotional effects of this childhood should be deeply understood and felt.Iglesias is PANK Magazine’s book reviews editor, Entropy Magazine’s film/television editor, and a columnist for LitReactor and Clash Media. Le basta usare espressioni come il Periodo dei Legacci Morbidi che poi diventa il Periodo della Catene per farci capire più di descrizioni particolareggiate. a recruitment officer representing four Russell Group universities asked an undercover reporter for the Sunday Times. Encontraram Daniel quase por acaso, num saco de plástico e comprimido num armário da cozinha; por essa altura, havia vários meses que era apenas matéria orgânica.

The children having been adopted by different families, have deep wounds, and Lexi, now a successful lawyer, has had little if any contact with them. Unfortunately, while alternating timelines she chose to flashback and forward and change points of view while doing so.Although written in an admittedly disjointed format, with constant and abrupt flashbacks (which I usually hate) I found myself riveted from page one. I fell back in love with working – and I was also doing something that made me deeply happy, in terms of writing. There were a few examples but the glaring one I can think of is the fact that a lawyer wouldn’t know what an executor is.
