About this deal

Blue Peter - From November 1971 , a visit to the Television Centre scenery block and a look at scenery items being sold by the BBC - see if you can spot the Doctor Who doors! This was the eighth boxset in The Collection series, featuring Jon Pertwee's second season as the Third Doctor.

Sadly The Daemons hasn’t seen any improvement in the picture quality , still with washed out colours . The Direct Route - Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s. Either wisely or unwisely (opinions differ), Letts and Dicks elected to include the Master in every story in Season 8, the only time in Doctor Who’s long history that a recurring villain has cropped up in every story of a season (unless you count the Valeyard, which personally I don’t).Colony in Space was the first serial set away from Earth since The War Games at the end of Season 6, and came about as a result of producer Barry Letts' feeling that the Earthbound stories of the Doctor's exile were too limiting in terms of potential plotting.

The script is a little thin on the ground and, as I mentioned earlier, is essentially a remake of Spearhead from Space with added bells and whistles. Several scenes from Episode Six are held on an offair NTSC VHS, which was used to create a bonus feature at the end of the original VHS release (the episodes themselves being in b/w), which has not been necessary since the advent of chromadot recovery.

Much has been written about Delgado’s stunningly menacing performance over the decades, but it bears repeating how utterly unique and immense his presence is from his first appearance.

Behind the Sofa - Katy Manning (Jo Grant), Stewart Bevan (Cliff Jones), Janet Fielding (Tegan), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Sacha Dhawan (The Master) and Anjli Mohindra (Queen Skithra, and Rani in The Sarah Jane Adventures) watch highlights from the opening story of Season 8. Some copies of the booklet were missing pages, and duplicated others in their place, these were replaced by BBC Studios on request. I think it’ll keep bothering me for the duration of the run because of how visible it is on your shelf that it’s been done incorrectly. Having purchased and gone through the set, I am pleased with how the quality of the restoration looks given the variable source material. If you are a fan of the 3rd Doctor and Classic Doctor Who in general and don't have the dvds that came out but want a physical copy then this set is for you.Bobby, Chris Chapman could still have made a tribute to Mary Tamm and could just be making it sound like he hasn’t done it. On the plus side the previously cut shot of a violent blow to the head of a primitive can now be seen within the context of an earlier edit of Episode Two.

I have “clean” artwork on the other sets but the spine imagine for S8, S12 (2nd EDT) and S23 all contain the villains and as you say S8 is marginally higher and just seems bigger than the others. Richard Franklin was in hospital roughly the same time they made the extras so probably wouldn’t be available. The Direct Route – Doctor Who directors Michael Briant, Graeme Harper and Tim Combe take an epic road trip to all the filming locations from Season 8 as they discuss directing the show in the early 1970s. I remember reading the Curse of Pleadon target book when I was a kid and when I finally saw it for the very first time which was the DVD release it did not disappoint! But for the die-hard collector, they do have a remarkable selection of extras and look extremely handsome up there on the shelf.Looked at from a modern perspective, the story is quite heavy-handed with the old CSO (colour separation overlay) but it looks as if these sequences have been touched up for the Blu-Ray release, as there are less noticeable fuzzy yellow lines than I seem to remember.
