About this deal

Alfie inherits some seriously cool super weapons which date to the dawn of time, but Hayley makes his job easier with a webcam and microphone.

If you can’t relate to his private education and palatial home, you might relate to how difficult he finds it to deal with the school bully. Alfie really grows from a prince who doesn't want to be a prince to a king who is willing to give his life for his country. The plot is entertaining and action-packed with a monstrous being that children will love to hate and battle sequences that are simply breath-taking. It`s about Alfie, heir to the throne, as he assumes his new role and discovers he must also become a superhero/vigilante figure known as the Defender, who deals with the mythical creatures that have caused all of the disasters in British history.

Here they witness a violent attack from an other-worldly creature like a giant lizard, who defeats the UK’s superhero protector known as the Defender of the Realm.

Some chapters are from Alfie’s perspective, others from Hayley’s, and that really balances things out. Defender of the Realm is a fun filled action packed adventure which presents an alternative view (or is it?The writing is neat, there is some 'hard' part, and I kinda hate reading that part, but goes past that, it successfully able to kept me occupied reading it. The characters were high schoolers who read like middle schoolers throughout except for in one or two key moments. Alfie is super - though he's the elder twin, he's klutzy and overshadowed by younger siblings, and consequently filled with doubt about himself and his role in the world. I really like the way they weave history and public controversy about the royal family into the novel.

The Revised Game Board for the Defenders of the Realm base game which features much cleaner graphic design for clarity and readability. Unfortunately his time comes quicker than expected and he quickly learns that there is more to the job than meets the eye. This should do well, but I am likely to skim future volumes just to keep up with the plot, and I find it sad that apparently this is up for a "best debut" award by some group in Britain. Were it used more frequently, I may have struggled with it, but each time the shift happened it felt purposeful and I enjoyed the development that came out of it. I always thought the modern British royalty was essentially useless, but this fantasy makes me see how it could be different - British monarch as superhero!Language:PG (1 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content:G; Violence:PG-13 (impaling with description of bloodshed). To make it worse, I think there is little motivation involved when he decides to become The Defender aside from duties. Alfie must quickly grow into the King the country needs, or who knows what will be left of the country?
