About this deal

I remind my soul of the truth and then ground myself and my body into this present moment and remember that I’m safe. So find a quiet place, sit still for a moment, then try praying each line breathing in for 3 seconds, then out for 3 seconds. Breath as Prayer will lead you through the practice and the proven health benefits of Christian breath prayer: purposeful prayers centered around Scripture that focus your mind on Christ as you calm your body through intentional breathing.

This may take a little practice, but over time you can train your body to respond to anxiety in a different way. As you cultivate your practice you’ll likely find that even when your prayer has finished, the effects of the prayer will remain, your sense of God’s presence as close to you as your very breath. This is part of the Prayer series where I describe various ways of praying in the hopes that you can find something (or multiple somethings) to help diversify and/or enhance your prayer life. I've never heard of breath praying before but I hope I am able to utilize it because most of the time during panic attacks I have no words to pray. But it wasn’t until last year that my daughter was hospitalized; she was admitted to the hospital last February. The next day when my anxiety shot up again because of the doctor’s coming in and things happening, I breathed and prayed. Breath Prayer is indeed a holistic practice for body, mind, and soul, and as it clears the path for you to abide in Christ (the very union of the spiritual and the physical) it also makes space within for Christ to dwell in you. When you hear the news of something awful happening to someone you love, take a breath and say, “Oh Jesus, be close to them. We were homeless for a while, staying with my aunt in her 3 bedroom apartment with her, her 3 teenage boys, her son's girlfriend, and their newborn baby and of course the dog.

She is doing her thinking aloud Dad had to quit work because of his heart and mom couldn't pay the bills on her own and I wasn't able to work. Then, if you add prior trauma and experiences of systemic sexism or racism, Post Traumatic Stress kicks in, and the dropping of keys is just the tip of the iceberg.

Breathe in and out, with the first part of your prayer coming to mind on the inward breath and the latter half connecting with the outward breath. During the course of a routine day, these systems interact fluidly to respond to a person’s needs: elevating and dropping hormone levels to stimulate wakefulness, immune system, digestion, sleep, etc.
