Finally, Bookwagon suggests that this title is a rite of passage for readers, a book destined for ‘classic’ status. Due for release in September 2021 I can’t wait to see the buzz it generates, and I’m grateful to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read it early.

I did like that the brother and sister split up, as we got to discover the world better from two different perspectives, in two different places. In particular, I think this boon would suit readers who have enjoyed Sophie Anderson and Katherine Rundell. Therefore, Rachel and Robert follow their father, close to their curfew hour, evading secret police to visit the North Brava Public Lending Library. He was initially involved in more scheming and so I enjoyed learning about the plans for Malstain's demise from him. She worked through these latter feelings and became the perfect eyes in which to view this world through.

Perhaps that was why their mother, on her deathbed, told them to fight for justice and their happiness. I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the publishers and Kaleidoscopic book tours. Rachel isn’t sure why the secret she’s keeping is so important but she knows it holds the key to freeing Brava from its cruel, tyrannical dictator and the only way she’ll ever get to see her father again.
