About this deal

On October 16, 1992, an impressive and eclectic group of artists gathered at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the purpose of celebrating the music of Bob Dylan on the occasion of his 30th anniversary of recording. Now available for the very first time in stunning High-Definition 16:9 with remastered audio, this essential Blu-ray also features 40 minutes of previously unreleased bonus material including rehearsal footage, a look behind the scenes and interviews. Sound is very punchy and powerful, I'm hearing Neil Young's Les Paul growling and Jim Keltner's drums kicking as never before .

Dubbed “Bobfest” on stage by a jubilant Neil Young, the 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration reached a transcendent crescendo with an unforgettable performance and all-star jam featuring the evening’s honoree. The lengthy effort that went into collecting the best resources, coupled with the unparalleled excellence of the editing, authoring, screen shots, and artwork, surely merits this remarkable set at least a top 10 ranking. The bonus features are a bit on the light side: 3 standard-definition bonus tracks and a (interesting) behind-the-scenes featurette (that was already available on the Web) but I guess that's all that we could hope for. In 1992, Columbia Records threw Bob Dylan an almighty 30th anniversary concert, inviting artists such as Lou Reed, Neil Young, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Johnny Cash, the Band, Pearl Jam, Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder and Willie Nelson to share the stage with the singer. However it takes quite some time to get through the big names before we see Bob or Zimmy as he is known to his friends, appear on stage. Kris Kristofferson introduced her before her appearance in the anniversary concert as an "artist whose name has become synonymous with courage and integrity". On October 16, 1992, New York City’s hottest concert ticket was the live gathering of musical giants, legends and archetypes who’d come to Madison Square Garden to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Bob Dylan’s first Columbia Records album and play a selection of Dylan songs—from culturally iconic (John Mellencamp’s no-nonsense “Like A Rolling Stone”) to bootleg obscure (Lou Reed’s acerbic take on “Foot of Pride”)—that had moved and inspired them over the decades. I can kind of understand it on My Back Pages - he was sharing the stage with five other guitarists and they couldn't all show off - but it's more disappointing on Absolutely Sweet Marie.

Warmly dubbed the Bobfest by participant Neil Young, the show was broadcast around the world and feature a cast of musical notables performing carefully chosen an0 often surprising selections from the incomparable Dylan songbook. That gig was one of the highlights of my career," guitarist GE Smith and the musical director of the show says.I was thrilled to see The Clancy Brothers ("with special guest just for tonight: Tommy Makem") (though Robbie O'Connell's harmony was seriously lacking). The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition includes new notes by pop music historian Bill Flanagan. One, a colossal library box housing the artist’s official Columbia Records album canon, from 1962’s Bob Dylan through 2012’s Tempest. if you know someone who under appreciates Dylan, this is great evidence of his songwriting brilliance.

It's been commented that it's not the whole show but there must be good reasons for that (licensing? Bringing together musical greats as far-flung as Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder, The Clancy Brothers and Lou Reed, the four hour show celebrated a truly remarkable lifetime of songs in front of a sold-out audience of over 18,000. The Bob Dylan – The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition is the first Dylan title to follow the historic November 5 release of Bob Dylan Complete Album Collection Vol. The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration is a live double-album release in recognition of Bob Dylan's 30 years as a recording artist. Lou Reed's musical rendition was more in Lou Reed style than Bob Dylan, plus he was the only artist who failed to memorise the lyrics and had to read from a music stand! That valedictory gathering from more than 20 years ago proved to be a mid-career retrospective of a recording artist and performer who continues to inform and transform the cultural landscape. Struck from a new High Definition video master with remastered audio, The 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration – Deluxe Edition makes this historic all-star musical event available for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray. Sad though to see so many time-served musicians no longer with us, we will not see their like again. Alternatively you can choose not to agree to the use of cookies – in this case we will only use the essential cookies. Finally, Disk 4 contains an overdubbed version of My Back Pages, the one in which Dylan's vocal was "improved".
