About this deal

If you’re heading to the gym or marathoning abroad, this compact massager from physio experts Bob and Brad should be on your radar. Despite its size, the Hypervolt Go2 can still compete with the big boys, blowing our testers away with its strength. We found it dragged on our skin on the lower speeds, causing some discomfort, but that was our only gripe. Try this gentler model, which has a variable speed dial for adjusting the intensity of your massage. The design (how ergonomic the handle was), portability and any other innovative features were also taken into consideration when deciding the final hierarchy.

You get four interchangeable massage heads to target different muscle groups, it packs a considerable punch and our expert raved about how well it glided over their muscles. Most of all, we noted if the gun made a real difference to our sore and tight muscles and if it would become the essential gadget we couldn’t live without. Note, this machine comes with just two massage heads, which is less than the others on this list, but it you’re after quick and easy muscle relief, it’s no problem. The definition of a smooth operator, it glided over our muscles seamlessly, the speed button was well placed and easy to reach while in use, and the brushless motor proved pretty darn quiet. She’s never been the sporty type, but running is the first time she’s felt real joy in getting active. Weighing just over 500 grams, the Carbon Go is considerably smaller than its predecessor, the MuscleGun Carbon, but it has everything you need in a massage gun. There’s no Bluetooth connectivity but most people won’t miss that, especially as there is an accompanying app to offer guidance and track your massage sessions manually.

A simpler solution, with separate controls for these two functions, might have been less prone to going wrong? The gun comes in a nice fabric box with inside slots for the gun itself and all the inserts and charger cable. The massage gun also comes with a short booklet providing ideas for how to massage specific muscle groups. To the back there is an on/off button and 5 LEDs which indicate which vibration frequency the massage gun is on. The gun itself feels very sturdy and with quality finishes, has some real weight in it and works really well. This hero model is hard to fault; it’s a little heavy and our arms started to ache after a while, but that’s a tiny quibble. Hold in the on/off button for a few seconds to turn it on, then cycle through the intensities with each press.

They judged each machine on how easy it was to control and how smoothly it moved over skin without snagging. It doesn’t have some of the frills the other guns have, so don’t expect an app, Bluetooth connectivity or even a case, and it doesn’t feel quite as powerful as the priciest guns. Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck are already the world’s best-known physical therapists, with more than four million subscribers on YouTube following their tips for a pain-free life. Alongside this, I also let some of my athletes, and my wife, try the product out as well, just to hear a few more thoughts on it. There were no issues with jolting or juddering over their skin, making for an extremely smooth massage experience.

The Bob and Brad C2 massage gun comes in a handy carry case, which is a must in my opinion: if you’re exercising while travelling or spending a lot of time at the gym it’s essential that your massage gun is portable. Alternatively, you can also freeze another of the interchangeable massage heads (there are six to choose from) for a powerful post-run cool down. It was the only one that comes with an extendable handle, which can be added to reach every single muscle without straining.

We tried all these devices, using them after a long day working at our desk and after a range of exercises, including kickboxing and weightlifting. Physical Therapists Bob Schrupp and Brad Heineck have over 60 years of combined experience in the physical therapy field. Note, the heat settings aren’t particularly strong, and our tester found the power button a touch slow to respond, but these are minor niggles. Despite its compact size, it has everything its bulkier counterparts offer, including five different massage heads, with each one designed to target a different muscle group. Our tester said it lacked the oomph needed to relieve brutal DOMS but found it ideal for less intense recovery sessions. If all that wasn’t enough, the motor was super quiet (so you can massage while watching the telly), it has a USB-C port for convenient charging, and it comes with a neat travel case if you want to take it with you.
