About this deal

This version sounds awesome, I’ve compared to multiple records, and I thought this one sounded best.

It was released on 8 May 1970, almost a month after the group’s public break-up, in tandem with the documentary of the same name. All the new ‘Let It Be’ releases feature the new stereo mix of the album as guided by the original “reproduced for disc” version by Phil Spector and sourced directly from the original session and rooftop performance eight-track tapes. And it was only two weeks ago, after finally picking up a genuine copy at a record fair, that I could conduct a side-by-side analysis to spot the differences.

There is further weakening to the inner parts of the box, some creasing and small tears where the book sits in the recess, but this is the norm for this design of box and copies that have not shown any age distressing are almost mythical and very rarely seen these days. George Harrison – lead and rhythm guitars, acoustic guitar on “For You Blue” and “I Me Mine”, tambura on “Across the Universe”, tuned-down six-string electric guitar on “Two of Us” and “Maggie Mae”, lead vocals on “I Me Mine” and “For You Blue”, backing vocals. maybe it was seen through rose tinted glasses when I was teen but looking at it now it really is shameful pap. On the same day, HMV released a special 12" box set with CD, badge, booklet and photos in a limited edition of 10,000 units as catalog number BEA CD 25/8.

When I started to look into it some more I discovered that what I had in my collection was actually a fake. From then, the project lay in limbo as they moved onto the recording of Abbey Road, released that September. The album was delayed further and in fact became their 12th and final official album release on 8th May 1970 following additional production by American producer Phil Spector. This entry was posted in Apple Records, Beatles, Beatles Collecting, Beatles Music and tagged Apple Records, Beatles, Bell Sound, fake, Let It Be, Let It Be Variations, Let It Be versions, red Apple by beatlesblogger. Non-legitimate copies also have “Phil + Ronnie” scratched in the play-out area of the disc but the writing is much smaller.

The project then yielded a single public concert held impromptu on the studio’s rooftop on 30 January, from which three of the album’s tracks were drawn.

Get Back was ultimately assembled under the title of Let It Be by the American producer Phil Spector in early 1970.

By the way, the “IAM” in the triangle stands for the International Association of Machinists Union whose workers ran the pressing plant). During the rehearsal process, they asked Glyn Johns, who had been hired to help with the live sound, to attempt a mix to create an album. Like most of the band’s previous releases, the album topped record charts in many countries, including both the US and the UK.
