About this deal

This impregnated tape is capable of accommodating joint width tolerance, and also provides weather resistance and thermal insulation. Place the oversized backer rod into the joint and push with a blunt tool to tightly fit against the joint sides at the required depth. There is half an inch gap between the tub and the wall and there is also the gap between the tile and the tub. Don’t think I could ask for more and I’ll certainly be using Sealant supplies again, what a great find. I realise it’s intended purpose is for back filling before using a product like silicone but it’s also good for filling gaps such as between floorboards to reduce gaps. Backer-rod, is a closed cell polyethylene foam cord in varying diameters from 6mm up to 75mm (larger sizes run on request) Used behind sealants and mastics in expansion joints. Tried to obtain Wide Gap Joint Fill unsuccessfully all over the country without success but Sealant Supplies came up trumps!Tooling also helps protect the weathertightness of the joint by eliminating air pockets created behind the sealant during gunning. Products arrived in good time and perfect for the job, a fungicidal wash to help keep moss off the roof. The open-cell backer rods are used as non-adhesive backfilling in construction joints and to ensure correct joint dimensions for sealants. Closed cell joint backing foam also known as backer rod or polycord, is a flexible polyethylene cord. Without tooling, the bond area between the sealant and the sides of the joint may not be sufficient to prevent the sealant from pulling away from the sides of the joint.

The width of the gaps differs somewhat but I was able to squeeze in the foam with a screwdriver after which the sealing/filling was quite easily done. the sealant is pushed to the bond line with a spatula, ensuring wet-out of the sealant to the substrate. Spent a lot of time looking for the right colour of sealant with no real results until I stumbled across Sealant Supplies. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The primary purpose of backer rod is to control the depth of the sealant and prevent it from bonding too deeply into the joint.

Goods remain the property of Sitebox Ltd until paid for in full as per our full terms and conditions. Quadrant strip never goes black and not visible silicon, it can just simply be wiped down with a cloth. A backer rod is a flexible foam material that is used in construction to fill gaps and joints between building materials, such as concrete, masonry, and wood. It is important to avoid over-compressing the backer rod, as this can cause it to lose its shape and affect the performance of the sealant. While studying the instructions to apply window frame sealant I came across the suggestion use these strips as a base.

On one occasion we used it to stop wood filler from falling through and have since used it by itself to fill gaps. This makes for a total seal and the foam would flex during temperature changes due to weather conditions. It expands on application to yield up to 50 times the can content and meets the extremely stringent requirements of the test criteria DIN 4102 Part 1 for Construction Materials; Class B1 and BS 476 Part 20. Once cured, the foam can be sawn or plastered over after only an hour providing the working temperatures (can and surfaces) are between +5oC to +25oC, ideally 20oC. So, to the missus disgust, all kinds of hairy critters and creatures slip in and are frequently founding feasting around the house.setting the correct depth of sealant is a very important part of the sealant process if this is set incorrectly the joints may fail. OK, the gap doesn't really look that big in the pics but anyway, there's nothing wrong with a big silicone seal it'll just take longer to go off and will take some more skill to make sure it looks good, you can use a backer rod if you really want to then I guess to prevent wasting silicone and it just being squeezed down the gap, the silicone quadrant just needs to lap onto the bath and the bottom of the tile by a mm or so. The backer rod supports tooling so after installation of material the sealant can be pushed to the bond line with a spatula, ensuring wet-out of the sealant to the substrate. I bought this to support the application of sealant to gaps between tiling and window frames and for finishing gaps left between flooring and door frames.
