About this deal

And while the majority of the responses to the book have been from women, quite a few blokes responded too. I loved this book but it was a little cringe for me in some scenes which is why I have rated it 3 stars.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most. Then there’s Seth, who her sister Emily sets her up on a blind date with after Emily meets at the gym. Before long they were being shared widely by women (and a few blokes) for whom Sophie’s dating experiences struck several chords. Her blog exposes bizarre, questionable and downright unforgettable dating experiences, both from Sophie and followers. A Glasgow Kiss was originally a self-published novel, as Gravia admits she had no idea how to approach publishers. I loved the main characters clumsy, loveable and hilarious traits and the events she got herself into had me in stitches! It’s the ultimate in low-cost, sustainable book-reading and often sparks an interest among members in other authors.

The sheer volume of grammatical, spelling and formatting issues put me off this book from the start. Heather Suttie, the Scottish events and PR specialist, was thrilled when she first read A Glasgow Kiss. The bar is literally on the ground for what she’ll accept from men in her life and she just ignored every red flag she ever saw. Then there’s the date with Barry, her teenage crush from many years ago and of course Pablo, the very handsome bartender.

The story was okay, but I did get a bit fed up of some of the stuff repeating throughout (why does she continually refer to her vagina as fishy? Post moderation is undertaken full-time 9am-6pm on weekdays, and on a part-time basis outwith those hours.

Cheered on by best friends Ashley and Raj, Zara embarks on a string of dating escapades that are as hilarious as they are disastrous. So, how big was he,” she screeched as she walked through the door into the kitchen, holding the Chinese bags in her hand.

Some of the plot was a little bit too dull, I really was only interested in this because it's set in Glasgow and I have much love for the place, however, this didn't really add anything to the story. Was buzzing to read this given I could identify with the location and I wanted to support local talent. It’s been written by a first- time author who had not the remotest idea of how to break into the publishing world and yet has secured her a two-book deal featuring the further adventures of Zara. Zara has had a crush on Tom since her very first day at the aesthetics clinic she works at part-time. I used to love a morning after breakdown of the night before in Coia’s and I loved seeing them get such a lengthy mention.

I read it in a day and being from Glasgow was excited to read about someone dating and living in the area. DNF - I read over 100 pages and Zara constantly speaks negatively of herself and gets obsessed over toxic relationships that leave you uncomfortable. Ultimately, though, the girl comes good with the perfect ending for her story—all she needed to be happy was her own confidence, and a man can't ever give you that! You find yourself unconsciously casting A Glasgow Kiss even as you’re reading it, as it’s perfect for a six-part comedy drama. She has almost completed her degree, living out a rented apartment owned by her Mother and vastly approaching thirty . I’m a nurse in Glasgow just like Zara, and I can attest that we are a colourful bunch but felt like this book went too far and I definitely shook my head like my Mother would a good few times! It’s just so honest and it could only have been written by a Glaswegian because it’s got that honesty and directness that’s usually missing from fiction that deals with sex and relationships. Laughed all the way through this book true witty heartfelt take on glasgow / Lanarkshire and the trials and tribulations of modern dating. Sophie Gravia, nurse and best-selling author of A Glasgow Kiss will be talking about her book on Saturday, February 5 at the Bookface Book Swap Brunch in Glaschu.
