About this deal

Only so many into space, before you forget that words are sometimes used for things other than filling emptiness. NEW YORK, United States — After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked and hopeful, which is aptly titled No Matter the Wreckage. No Matter the Wreckage invites readers to revel in both new and beloved works, showcasing Kay's remarkable ability to celebrate the essence of family, love, travel, history, and even peculiar romances between inanimate objects ("Toothbrush to the Bicycle Tire") with eloquence and charm. I am proud of the conversation it is engaging with and grateful that I can share it with folks through this book.

I loved how her poems touched not only love, but awareness, longing, giving importance to other people, putting someone else's happiness before her own and how she made each poem entirely different from another. My self-confidence can be measured out in teaspoons, mixed into my poetry, and it still always tastes funny in my mouth. Since No Matter the Wreckage includes poetry from a span of ten years of my life, it was inevitable that at some point my family would be included, since there were plenty of times in that decade when I was navigating family dynamics and history. In No Matter the Wreckage, Sarah manages to give us more of a glimpse into her thoughts and experiences, and each and every one, some sounding like simple and mundane actions which are given a breath of life you would never expect, and others such as Subway, a piece which brings you to the underground of New York and illustrates a perfectly a simple picture of what it feels like to take the subway while it is raining.I highly think the connection between us is palpable, her words connect to me with too much precision. I believe that this latter point is a reason that spoken-word poetry has become popular amongst many people are who are not real poetry fans.

It is like watching a really good film, and then reading the book and taking a slightly different experience away with it, like reading Lord of the Rings after watching the film, and still enjoying the book afterwards. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Sarah Kay, a graduate of Brown University, was born in New York to a Japanese American mother and a Jewish American father. I like how not all of her pieces stem from anger, or lust, or anguish; the emotional variety of this collection strengthens it. No Matter the Wreckage presents readers with new and beloved work that showcases Kay’s knack for celebrating family, love, travel, history, and unlikely love affairs between inanimate objects, among other curious topics. It will stick to your feelings and invigorate your inner cries a little bit (or more than a little bit), but most importantly it is an additional stunning perspective to view the world in.

It took a few poems for me to get into No Matter The Wreckage and get used to the distinctive style of the poems and the poet’s voice. The poetry books I have read so far are either lackluster or bland in terms of writing, but this book completely changed my viewpoint on poetry.
