About this deal

This was such a wonderfully warm, witty and life affirming book about the importance of friendship and connection. The Man Who Died Twice is the second book of the series and dare I say, I enjoyed it even more than the first, which I loved.

With a perfect mix of interesting characters, mystery , intrigue and humor The Man Who Died Twice is an engaging novel. One bit of advice: I strongly recommend you read The Thursday Murder Club first, if you haven’t, before reading this. The four friends manage to find, with a little support from the police, the culprit behind a double murder. But you may imagine nothing goes as it planned, dead bodies start piling up and our genius foursome find themselves into complex espionage scheme, fighting against real dangerous criminals.I’ve missed their camaraderie, their hilarious conversations, their individual foibles and their ability to behave badly without arousing suspicion. As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. She went further, lambasting Osman as "very much a one-trick pony", his characters as "paper-thin", and scorching both of his "soap opera" books as "lack[ing] the underlying moral seriousness that is an essential ingredient of the best crime fiction. It’s one thing to be able to voice one or two characters effectively, but to do a large cast of both female and male characters, all with different ages, speech patterns and dialects and to make each one distinctly their own is a true gift, and she’s got it in spades. Elizabeth as the brains behind the operation obviously stands out but once again it’s ex nurse Joyce who through her diary entries had me in stitches.

One of our foursome runs afoul of a youthful criminal, throwing an extra complication into the situation, and nearly killing them. This proves to be an highly entertaining, fun, and engaging sequel, so definitely and deliciously moreish that I have no doubt that this will do as well, if not better than the first book for Osman. I am happy to check reality at the door and immerse myself in this world where, for the most part, the good guys win and the bad guys don’t.

After really enjoying the first book in this series I borrowed the next two books from a family member who had actually recommended it to me.The dialogue is off the scale humorous so that from the opening discussion in which Joyce is deliberating with her fellow murder club members whether to join Instagram or get a dog for company you know there are going to be laughs aplenty.

It’s fair to say I don’t think I could ever tire of these characters who for all their lighthearted silly banter are superb friends to one another. Ibrahim suffers a brutal mugging, but these friendships grow because of it, especially with Ron and his young grandson who comes to visit.

She turns left at the top of the stairs, transfers the flowers to her left hand and knocks on the door of number 14.
