On its own that wouldn’t be enough to drop a star but the remote lacks most of the basic functionality you’d find on pretty much any other tv.The guarantee is back to base which means in the unlikely event of a fault you can take the TV back to any of our 5 branches for repair. It serves up a decent amount of brightness, enough to remain watchable even in brighter rooms, but it’s disappointing to find that the backlighting isn’t very even. The stand offers a stylish touch, but it does jut forward, so if you need to squeeze a soundbar onto your TV stand you may want to double-check the measurements to ensure it will fit in front of the TV.Good picture quality, smart services and access to applications all direct via the TV with no need for other connections such as Fire Sticks. If you’re looking for a large sound that doesn’t come across as cluttered or overbearing, you’ll be happy with this TV’s audio performance – but investing in a separate soundbar is the easiest way to boost the sound performance on offer here.

The JVC’s modest backlighting means that it does struggle with HDR content in brighter rooms, and here the Dolby Vision Bright profile lends a helping hand to make sure things don’t end up looking too dim, even if shadow detail does end up looking washed out in the process. Fire TV Edition seamlessly integrates live broadcast TV and streaming channels on a unified home screen (TV aerial required). The poor motion handling and upscaling will rightfully knock it off many people’s wish lists, but for watching everyday TV and streaming services, it’s passable.
