Palate Oily and subtly spicy at first, before notes of earthy vanilla pod and chocolate-covered raisins develop. Each time you indulge in a pour, you're sharing a dram with the islanders who played a role in crafting it. The distillery use lightly-peated malt which produces a light whisky with an almost oily taste to it. Jura whisky is available in a variety of single malts and vatted malts and Jura Superstition is a personal favourite amongst the staff here at Hard To Find Whisky. Delmé-Evans was most involved with Jura, however,remaining on the board until his retirement in 1975.

Nose Zesty wafts of fresh lemon peel and candied orange open things up followed by mint leaves and blossom. It has the subtle smoke characteristic of Jura's excellent Island single malts, with robust vanilla and an intense kick of sherried sweetness underneath. I initially tried this neat and the nose was smokey with a sweetness not unlike peat, a little bit of water allowed the chocolate and coffee through as well as hints of ginger and orange with the smoke more in the background. Part of the new core range of whiskies launched by Isle of Jura in early 2018, this 10 year old expression takes the place of Jura Origin. Jura whisky is made using the crystal clear waters that run off ‘The Paps of Jura’, the tallest mountain range on the isle.

The palate is rich and full-bodied with black forest fruits and some smoky notes, before a bitter chocolate aspect and rich espresso finish.Not sure if anyone else got it but this unmistakable tropical fruit/mango finish with a hint of pepper. Single malt whisky does have a distinct and pronounced flavor profile, often with a depth of flavor and a high degree of complexity which some connoisseurs may interpret as “better”.Light peat, brown sugar and orange on the nose leads to smooth burnt toffee taste, with softer citrus and coffee on the finish. Sweet and balanced on the palate without smoke for me, and on the finish a delightful apple, with crumble.
