About this deal

Yes, since I latched onto his unique brilliance when he joined The Yardbirds in fact and I realised that his playing was more inventive than Hank Marvin's ( the British guitar hero that all others efforts were measured up against at the time). Gibbons, Jan Hammer, Beth Hart, Jimmy Hall and Buddy Guy and concluded with a group encore of "Purple Rain" in honor of Prince. In the summer of 2016, Jeff Beck celebrated 50 years of his musical career with a special concert at the famous Hollywood Bowl. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I have 4 other people's versions of 'I'd Rather Go Blind' in my collection, all of them good, but Beth can trawl those emotions up from deep inside herself and slap you in the face with them that bit better.

Les invités le sont tout autant, Buddy Guy, Jan Hammer ou Billy Gibbons se montrent à la hauteur du maitre. Beck’s collaboration with the keyboardist was the cornerstone of his most creative period, and with this onstage reunion (“I am so thrilled to have the great Jan Hammer on keyboards,” Beck introduced), the faithful were satiated. But little did u know I would again years later see him in Concerts and leading up to his 50th Anniversary. There are one or two misfires - Beth Hart is a fine singer but she completely destroys "I'd Rather Go Blind" with vocal histrionics, and Billy Gibbons sounds limp (but he would after Buddy Guy, wouldn't he? Rosie Bones, the Cockney crooner of Beck’s latest studio configuration, got the crowd in the mood by stalking through it with a flashing-light-festooned movie camera, then hopping up on the stage’s front skirt to pump out Loud Hailer’s “The Revolution Will Be Televised. The show climaxed with the guests all joining forces for an exhilarating encore performance of "Purple Rain" in tribute to Prince, who had passed away a couple of months before the concert. This album is a bit different from his previous live stuff in that he revisits not just his solo back catalogue but the stuff he did with The Yardbirds, and the Jeff Beck group featuring Rod Stewart. Founding Editor of Guitar World magazine and Creative Consultant to the Jimi Hendrix Foundation, Noe Gold has worked for Crawdaddy and The Hollywood Reporter, The Village Voice and the New York Daily News.

The tribute to Prince with 'Purple Rain' is easily up there with Prince's own remarkable guitar prowess, so honours his memory well. This album covers most of Jeff's musical career but I would have liked something from his 'Jeff Beck Group' days of the early 1970's ( when Max Middleton was his keyboard player and Cozy Powell was on drums). For more than forty years, I've dipped into Jeff Beck's career without his music really connecting with me. He’s also hugely respected by his peers, and is clearly and deeply committed to playing what he wants to play rather than chasing new markets. What’s funny is I did not realize that he was the one on the Album I had bought, as it looks painted on the cover. My favourite songs from this set are the ones featuring Steve Tyler, Buddy Guy, Billy Gibbons and Beth Hart.
