About this deal

Apart from the fact that it is Americanised: Britain and America have their own terminology regarding the subject, so it can be slightly confusing if you haven't got a lecturer to set you straight. You don't have to learn everything, but it does teach you information that as a consumer you should know. Book 1 is also aligned with topics that students will have learned about in earlier stages of study. If you are a mechanic wanting to increase your knowledge or a student/potential student then you should not be without this book!

As a beginner to moderately experienced home car mechanic, I have learnt quite a bit from this book. Each edition is well written and, I think, with the car enthusiast in mind as opposed to the professional reader.

The book gets straight to the point with an easy to use index and titled paragraphs I'd recommend this to anyone studying Motor Vehicle Technology at college or even if you just want to learn something new and you don't really need to know a lot about cars to understand this book unlike any other books. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. These widely-admired and authoritative texts provide the best possible resource for students, apprentices, enthusiasts, and professionals who need to get to grips with core concepts and achieve comprehensive mastery of core concepts of automobile technology. Book 2 follows on with greater depth and breadth for modern vehicle technologies and electronic based systems and is more appropriate for advanced students and for existing technicians who want to develop knowledge of the modern vehicle. It gives you detailed information on how vehicle components work and what they are for, without getting too complicated. I own several incomplete editions of this famous 'Hilliers Fundamental of Motor Vehicle Technology' book series, spanning at least a couple decades, maybe longer.

Not only does it give you the fundamental basics but it also takes you to the maths and science behind everything. ANY question you will encounter on the phase tests or the exams will have an exact answer in this book. The English is not too complicated which can be an incredibly headache for people who just want to sit and read to catch up but end up with a book that had a sentence within a sentence that digresses mid-sentence. If, like me, you love cars, but you've always kinda taken the way it works for granted, get this book. It assumes absolutely zero starting knowledge, so great for someone looking to understand the basics of how a vehicle works. It's actually interesting - you don't need to be training to be a car mechanic to find some sort of appeal. David Rogers is a dedicated professional with a multifaceted background encompassing Engineering, automotive technology, and technical writing.

Well its a book so I got no problem with it because the availability was enough for me but I would've appreciated it more if they have delivered me a new one.

I have used other study books that I didn't really understand but the Hillier's book helped me so much that I probably wouldn't have passed Motor vehicles level 1 at college. The book starts you off with the history of cars and then dives right in with the 1st topic, giving colour pictures and excellent diagrams all described so even a dummy such as myself can get it once you have the basics down experience in the field will take you the rest but it's nice to have a starting block. Book 1 is similar to previous editions of Fundamentals of motor vehicle technology, but, with updated information. I bought the Haynes Manual for my MX5 with the real intention of carrying out work but could not penetrate it's language.
