About this deal

The covers for most books have Harry and friends in Hogwarts uniform - exceptions being Goblet of Fire, where he wears his Triwizard Tournament robes, and Deathly Hallows, where he wears a simple jacket. Since the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, many publishers have created new editions of each book with new cover art provided by various illustrators. In 2013, Bloomsbury had woodcut artist Andrew Davidson create new cover art for the paperback adult edition. One of a new line of palm-sized art books, The Art of Harry Potter: Mini Book of Creatures presents an incredible treasure trove of Harry Potter creature art in a unique miniature format. The publisher held a competition for creating a brand new sets of cover art, which was won by Hanna Särekanno.

I have no way of telling how many doors were opened for me as a result of my small connection with HP, or how many slammed shut; I don’t think about it. And it was even easier to turn down the chance to be on TV quiz shows, or address the Oxford Union (I’m not kidding), or any of the other crazy suggestions that came my way. Selznick knew "right away" that he wanted the covers to be connected so they could build a single image when put together, focusing on the key themes of good and evil. Hogwarts castle appears behind Harry and the arched columns through which he is flying, the bottom of the entire cover shows a soft, red and blue tile floor, which is connected to the columns. The soft floor features a transparent fabric so we can able to see the bottom of the columns, and Fluffy's three vicious heads are visible in an opening in the castle wall.

It could be said that all four Marauders appear - Sirius Black is probably the silhouette toward the bottom of the front cover, Peter Pettigrew's rat form is in the front flop, Remus Lupin in Werewolf form runs in the back cover, and Harry's stag Patronus (which resembles James Potter's Animagus) is in the back flap. The alternate paperback editions has Snape running into the woods for Sorcerer's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets for Chamber of Secrets. I even remember being jostled into signing the cover for a few people, despite the fact that they clearly didn’t believe it. A second design used the same illustrations as the full cover, along with the familiar Harry Potter logo.

A mental alarm bell rang, a moment too late, and I quickly ended the conversation, with breathless squeaks of protest from the handset as I hung up.
