It's designed to fold flat for storage but the 2 poles slot together under the music unit to stabilise it when upright. It is a sturdy play gym (I have worked in a nursery, so have seen many play gyms which aren't of the same quality just fall down).I would choose this product above others, as it encouraged my daughter to roll whenever she wanted the music to play. The portable toucan is a fantastic idea and has allowed our family to enjoy mealtimes whilst the baby is engrossed with the tunes at her highchair.

Looks like there is plenty to keep him entertained, mine always loved the mirrors on theirs too but we were like you and lost several of the toys along the way.
