The Dee-purists, on the other hand, are much less likely to adopt any aspect of the Golden Dawn Enochian material into their study or practice of the magick. William Frankland was a British astrologer who was active in London during the period between the two World Wars. Never heard of Dr John Dee or Enochian Magic but after hearing Dr DeSalvo on Jeff Rense by accident I had to get the book. He published The Complete Pyramid Sourcebook in 2003 and Andrew Jackson Davis: The First American Prophet and Clairvoyant in 2005. Linguist Donald Laycock, an Australian Skeptic, studied the Enochian journals, and argues against any extraordinary features.

The "Biblical" (that is, post-Babel) state of earthly language lasted well into the sixteenth century. They believed that these revelations granted them access to insights concealed within Liber Logaeth, often referred to as the Book of Enoch. They were given such names as "Celestial" and "Malachim" (which were and are still used in talismanic magick), but they were only feeble shadows of the divine language of creation. Dee never associated his Watchtowers with the Elements, instead assigning them only to the four cardinal directions and listing the functions of the angels as mostly alchemical in nature. Book of the Speech of God, also known as Liber Mysteriorum, Sextus et Sanctus [The Sixth and Sacred Book of the Mysteries], referred to by Dee as The Book of Enoch [1]) (1583) is preserved in the British Library mostly within what are known as the Sloane manuscripts, chiefly Sloane MS 3189 (but parts of Sloane MS 3188 and the Cotton MS Appendix I also contain the beginning and end of the book, with some copying of material in Sloane MS 3188 appearing in Sloane MS 3189). They used four chessboards without symbols on them, just sets of colored squares, and each board is associated with one of the four elements of magic.
