I really loved the forced proximity, the one bed trope and the fact our MMc must communique via sign language or writing on paper really brought a dynamic that I really enjoyed between our MCs. Main characters: 130 years ago, humans lost the Last Battle against the Fae and they have been paying them tribute ever since. They played off each other very well, and their development was kept believable yet completely swoon-worthy! He cannot talk, and eventually learns to communicate with “the hand language the baker in my town taught me”. The rest of the story takes place on the Fae Isles, and more precisely, in and around the Crimson Court of the Mother. I can’t wait to explore more of the world and magic because I feel like I was given enough info to continue, but definitely need more to be satisfied. When Lisette isn’t dreaming about gorgeous heroes and sensual heroines, she can usually be found reading about weird history, plotting unrealistic fictional murders or baking way too many chocolate cookies for herself and her boyfriend.Alongside the love story, Creon and Emelin are in a dangerous situation, facing many enemies, and if anyone uncovers their plan it will mean instant death for both of them. There's so much interesting history of the fae and humans and I could honestly picture bits of the history as Emelin learned about it! The treacherous Crimson Court, where the Mother of faekind has ruled unchallenged over fae and humans for decades. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events. Neither of them act on it as Creon teaches Emelin about his world and they begin her training, but it’s always there.

There are a lot of back and forths between our two lovebirds throughout the book, it adds to the tension between the two. The high fantasy plotline doesn't get lost - it's action packed and heart pounding with a kick butt protagonist. It doesn’t take long for us to see a different side of him, firstly in sparing Emelin, and then when he sets her up in his home and she starts to snark at him, and he snarks right back.Court of Blood and Bindings is the first installment in the Fae Isles series and is a fantasy romance story perfect for ACOTAR fans.
