I’ve just finished this (an advanced copy) and once again Rachel has woven together a fantastic story. The characterisation was very well done and I did get emotionally involved – I always feel an author has done their job well when you care what happens to a character.This grossly oversimplified understanding has created many complexities in our lives and taken away from us the very fundamentals of the joy of living.

Then Rachel also takes us back in time when we see a young family moving into a new home in Liverpool. The reader is taken on a twisting and turning road to what is a superb and satisfying conclusion to the entire story. That name means nothing until Tom, Becky, Rob and Jumbo meticulously peel back the layers of her life to discover who she is and who would want her dead. Once again Rachel Abbott has created an original story with a cast of characters who are either fascinating or downright despicable. Martha Porter is the office manager, and whilst she knows everything there is to know about the workings of XO-Tech, not one of her colleagues knows the first thing about her.The stories are as much about the characters who are at the heart of the case as it is the police and their day to day investigations. This became her debut novel Only The Innocent, which she went on to publish via Kindle Direct Publishing, topping their chart for 4 weeks.
