About this deal

I craved the times that they were together, and sometimes I felt like their moments were over way too quickly. Louisa was my favorite and made me think of the summer I was able to spend in Italy and all the amazing people I met. She still misses her ex-boyfriend, the same man she changed cities for, but she's concentrating on her A-game to create killing designs to find her dream job in the fashion industry.

That or “When in Rome…”, either case, Violet is taking both head on as she lands in Rome and gears up for an internship of a lifetime. Unfortunately, on her first day, her coffee run turns into a disastrous meeting with a cute guy - she ends up destroying a brooding stranger's laptop. Shocked to see Matt again, Violet quickly discovers Matt (or as his mother reveals — Matteo) is the professor’s son and will also be staying at the apartment while she is there.I spent a couple of weeks in Rome and Tuscany a few years ago and did not have nearly as much fun as Violet did.

This extremely swoon-worthy, engaging, inspirational romcom is absolutely one of my favorite works by Kate Bromley! Breezy, fun, and packed with luscious descriptions of couture designs and Roman landmarks, Bromley's narrative is both a charming love story and a thoughtful exploration of a woman trying to let go of the past and discern what she truly wants for her future. This is a mostly lighthearted story but there is still plenty of depth as well and I thought the combo was perfect.

To me it felt like it moved too quickly, but given that Violet was only in Rome for 4 weeks, it makes sense that the timeline would have to be a bit more compressed.

Mild spoiler, but there was a third-act breakup that felt a little silly (though I applaud the author for making it last a whole year, even it was a fast-forward situation in the end) but I adored the grand gesture at the end. If this went from a semi open door book to a closed door romance, again — it would still be just as enjoyable! Maybe if there would have been an epilogue that showed some of their future and where they ended up, I would have felt different?Bromley’s appealing debut sees a New York City romance novelist thrown back together with a hated ex. Fabulous Italian food, Prosecco, Roman landmarks, glittery parties, and peaks into the fashion industry serve as the backdrop to this grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers, forced proximity romcom.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing a NetGalley ARC in exchange for my honest review. When Violet dumps coffee ☕️ all over him and his laptop 💻… well she learned just how grumpy 😠 and snarky Matt could be. Violet needs to win this competition to launch her fashion career but sparks fly as she spends more time with Matt and the distraction might cost her the prize.Violet is a 29 year-old design student from New York City, deeply in debt and plagued by self-doubt, who has landed a coveted internship in Rome that will have her competing with two classmates for a job at a New York fashion label that might be her only chance to make a go of a career in fashion.
