About this deal

When K goes out to a farm to track down a rogue generation 8 model named Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista) he discovers something akin to their version of a Pandora's box. It’s now the year 2049 and the world of replicants and humans is so much different, but still eerily similar. Once that opening sequence is over and we are in some scenes driven more by dialogue and action you’ll notice great use of the Atmos (height) speakers and rear channels as K’s engine roars when he lands or later when the wind passes by. The noise floor is extremely high and IMO there's no benefit and a waste of money going "hi-res" on a recording that doesn't even tax 16-bit CD resolution!

I guess time will tell if the sequel becomes as revered and dissected as the original, but after this first viewing I am HUGELY impressed. Rather than just taking scenes and replicating them, Villeneuve understood everything that was great about the original and used its DNA to craft a worthy successor. There is a potential upside to this gentle HDR approach, in that it perhaps helps explain how the film’s tricky and highly varied color palette always looks beautifully balanced and authentic. It has its definite moments that come to mind, I just won’t mention specially to avoid dishing out any “spoilers” of sorts.Roger Deakins has stated that he's not a huge fan of HDR and we can't tell if the 4K is hugely brighter or darker than the Full HD Blu-ray as it would seem it's subtly implemented. While the quality is genuinely very good and provides an interesting look at the making of the film, you just know that there is more content out there somewhere that didn't make the cut for this outing. More human than human, he is part of a division of the LAPD under Lieutenant Joshi (Robin Wright) whose sole purpose on Earth is to kill those like himself.

Black Out (HD, 15:45) – This animated short from director Shinichiro Watanabe gives some backstory to a major event that forms an important part of the plot of Blade Runner 2049. As iconic as Ford was to the first film, I believe fans will come to know Gosling as K and never doubt that the role was a perfect fit for the actor. The entire Bladerunner department of the LAPD is staffed by replicants, as they are the most efficient at hunting down their own kind. Whether or not the film comes to a close with an open-ended finale suggesting that there could be more adventures, some things are better left alone. Look at K’s interactions with his artificial intelligence “girlfriend” Joi (played by Ana de Armas). The one I was initially hesitant on was Ana de Armas, as she’s not exactly an established actress (and the movies I’ve seen her in she wasn’t always top notch).
